I am buying a pair of vibrams but I'm not sure how to tell if they are a good fit. Should they feel really tight, with your toes touching the end of the shoe? Or should there be a little bit of room in them? Any advice very welcome!
Thanks everyone :)

look for a good fit at your heels and especially up to the achilles tendon. often it chafes there easily.
just try different models. they are not the same. they feel different. take the most comfy one.

What model do you find best? I was looking at either the speed or the KSO.
Have a great day,

the speed has a different sole. thicker and softer. I guess that your foot is covered more like a glove. feels softer overall. you walk in in pretty soft. very comfortable I guess. I have only the bikila ls. seems to me they are similar. I love this shoe, BUT they smell like crazy. i sweat easily and thus you smell it. you could wash them all the time. the sole does not last that long. after some km you see it gets less and less. around the achilles tendon it is very soft. so i have no problems with chafing there.
the KSO is more like the older models. I have the classic and the sprint. they are similar but not covered on top. they have the thinner and slippery sole (when wet or muddy). this shoe has more barefoot feeling. you feel every small stone. but the sole lasts forever. I really ran a lot in them and no problem at all. but in mine, the foot is more loose in it in comparison to the bikila. not like a glove. chafing can be much more problem. but they are more open and thus less smelly.
so all in all, you have to know what you need. that's why i recommend to try both and long in a shop, if possible. (in the afternoon when the feet are wider)

It's really kind of you to take the time to help me with this :) I might look into the bikila as well then, since you like it a lot. And I'll definitely try them all on and see which feels most comfortable.
Permalink Reply by Catherine on May 28, 2012 at 11:14pm + 1, I am in between size but I order the upper size : 42 which is the last available for women most of the time. I own three pairs but I have only been wearing two of them regularly a trek pair that is tight on my feet and got me blisters, a bikila that is like a cloud around my feet and I would recommend for people like me that walked barefoot in the childhood and have large feet. I never tried them instore before buying them because they are not sold in my country so I ordered them on the internet but if you have the opportunity to try them, do it ! Really worthy, specially to get used to putting them on without squeezing two toes in the same part of the shoe.
Permalink Reply by Esperanza Vite - The Raw Monkey on May 29, 2012 at 12:40am Sounds like the bikila could be a good one for me to go for then. And I'll definitely try to test them out before buying a pair. Thanks for all the advice on this :) Have a lovely day, Esperanza xxx
Permalink Reply by Action Orangutan on May 30, 2012 at 12:40am I have the KSO's and I love them. They are supposed to be a pretty tight fit, not painfully tight, but it should go from heel to toe with no extra room. If you get a size too large you are going to get blisters either at your achilles or it will be on the ball of your foot near your toes, at least that is where I had the problems from a too large shoe.
