I'm back in India for the winter, living mostly on bananas, dates and watermelons -- the 3 best tasting fruits available around here.
I heard a nasty rumor the other day. I was told that bananas here in India in winter are not exactly vegetarian because distributors use non-veg chemicals to speed-up the ripening process after truckloads of bananas have been transported.
I'm in Vrndavana, near New Delhi. The bananas I'm eating are probably from South India, meaning they may travel 1500+ kilometers to get to me.
Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?
