Just thought I would post something that has been on my mind a lot lately.
I read somewhere that under wire bras are bad for you...may cause cancer, etc. I agree that under wires that don't fit appropriately can definitely cause harm. But the more I think about it...what about having metal right next to your heart.
Since going 811 (and nursing 2 kids) I don't have much left up top. Any thoughts?
"There was a study that came out of Harvard in 1991 showing bra-free women had a much lower rate of breast cancer. (Eur J Cancer. 1991;27(2):131-5). Then there was Dressed to Kill and the 1991-93 Bra and Breast Cancer Study by medical anthropologists Singer and Grismaijer. There are innumerable doctors now informing their patients to stop wearing tight bras, especially 24/7."
I'm guessing they didn't stratify any data here. Good point. If you always wore wire bras, maybe you were more concerned with artificial appearances than health. You weren't very active. You didn't care that you were wearing synthetic cloth or chemically treated cloth from a factory. And so on.
i'm not aware of any statistical evidence but i tend to believe this is not the case.
there are no-bra-activists of all kinds. i can't provide any links, but if you search the net you will find their webpages.
I doubt there is more metal in underwire bras than there is in most jewelry... I wouldn't worry too much about that aspect of it, but that's just me.
I used to HAVE to wear an underwire. Now since being on 811 awhile that is happily an option, not a necessity. I feel most comfortable in bras that do not have wires, but under certain clothes one just looks better with a nice fitting bra.
On the Bragg's Aminos products you can find information about Patricia Bragg - which led me to some publication of hers about bras and how they restrict and then toxins pool. But who wears restrictive bras? And I've heard they don't allow your natural muscles to work, which leads to sagging skin.
Yeah. I take wires out when they start messing up. I also don't wear a very tight-fitting one either. People are always like, "They're supposed to be tight," but mine have never been. Mine fits, but it isn't restricting. You know how you sometimes see a woman wearing a bra and it looks like the straps are digging into her back, because they're done up so tight? Not me, ever. In fact, mine's so comfortable I often forget I'm wearing one.
On weekends- and even weekdays with the right shirt- I wear a loose-fitting cloth bra with no wires. And if I'm not going anywhere on the weekends, I hardly ever even put one on. If you're worried about the wires, just take them out. A little poking with some scissors or a knife will do to get it open, and then it just pulls right out. Easy.
But like Zoe said, I don't think it's a big deal. Most of the metal rods are coated, and covered with the fabric, so I'm sure it doesn't hurt. It's probably the restrictive aspect that causes the most problems. I can definitely see how something so tight could be harmful.
having larger boobs, I only wear underwire. I feel I get much better support. If I don't wear a bra it's distracting to me and painful if I try to move with any real speed. How were we supposed to run all naked like in the wild for those of us who have larger boobs.
i stopped wearing bras long time ago.
during the first year or so of going bra-less i would still wear a bra for running as i found it uncomfortable without.
later i changed to a top (like those young girls might wear). and still later i discovered it didn't make any difference wether i was wearing that top or not.
i guess it's a matter of training. once u start useing your own body's tissues instead of a bra to hold your breasts these tissues may become stronger.
i heard/read several women suggesting the same.
haven't got any scientific evidence though.
just wanted to add that I have scored ripe bananas at a good price at airports before so it is worth looking around particularly at bigger airports (and the look on your fellow travellers' faces when you're chowing down on 10 nanners at 30k ft is pr…
Hello my fellow raw goodies! I want to share a little secret that involves skin :) I'm reaching out to all because I know we are all on a conscious and positive path of life. We all have come here to enrich and better our lives through eating health…
Ever since I first heard eggs described as chicken menstruations I've had a problem ingesting them.
I second this Sultana, for sure.
Thanks B, excellent info as usual!
Europe is different.
People started to think about nature and saving nature early on.
We have alot of law regulations about animal treatment at the farms and they are well let us say getting "closer" to the natural one.
for example cows are free run…
no haven't heard that about the soap and cancer, seeing it's allopathic in nature (addressing a symptom not the cause) I can't imagine how that would work.

I have just started using soap, and i have noticed two things my teeth cleared up the sensitivity they developed recently (never had it in my life) and they look clean but more stained. Hmmm I'm not convinced I think I may go back to water, I also h…
