30 Bananas a Day!

Hello all!

I have always been a rabid carnivore so this is a big change for me. I started watching Freelee's videos about two weeks ago, and have only commited to being a high carb vegan for a few days. During the beginning of the day I was stressing out and was sure there was no way I could eat this many calories. I pushed real hard to get all the fruit down to make 2,500 calories. Then, a few hours after dinner, I was ravenous again but most of my bananas aren't ripe yet! I had 2 peices of toast with half an avocado :( I know that the reason this happened was that I didn't have any fruit available (bananas take so long to ripen!). So I was hoping for some tips as to how you all maintain a constant supply of fresh fruit. I apologize if this was already posted somewhere but I couldn't find it. If so I would love the link!

Hi there and welcome to 30bad!

My main advice would be to buy bananas in bulk, two or three times a week, and get a ripening system going with them. If you're ok with frozen fruit, freeze lots once they ripen (to use in smoothies etc.) and this way you'll always have some ripe bananas on hand.

Then have some back up fruits around too. Dates for example can be kept in a cupboard for emergencies, and apples and oranges will last ages in the fridge so you can have those for any times you don't have lots of ripe bananas around.

Are you buying wholesale? I would really reccomend it, as it enables you to get much bigger quantities at a fraction of the store price.

I actually have on my website a range of raw guides with tips for easily maintaining this lifestyle. I have one for creating a shopping schedule which you might find helpful as it talks about keeping a constant supply of fruit going, how much fruit to buy each week, making a ripening system etc. Here's a link to those www.therawmonkey.com/books

Hope this helps and feel free to ask if you have any more questions - I'm always very happy to answer them :)

Have a lovely day,

Esperanza answered this quite well.  I bought a case of nanas and let them rippen on my shelf.  Then when they got spotted I cut them up and put them in pre-weighed baggies and in the freezer.  I take one out each day and make a smoothie from them.  Then I look for sales and buy those. Normally these are the ones that are yellow and the general population won't buy them. Silly!  They rippen faster.  I keep on top of it daily.

This program takes a bit to get use to on this issue.  If you went to toast you are probably craving salt.  Instead up your green intake.  Shoot for a lb a day.  Smoothies, soups, salads.  I do a V6 juice per day with a lb of greens and then use some other greens during the day.

Thank you both! I am totally craving salt and I will take note to eat more greens. Yes I bought bananas wholesale, 40lbs for $25, now my room smells like bananas! Which is fine with me. I would love to see your book but I don't have a credit card or a paypal account :( I will definitely freeze them too, good idea. Thanks again! <3

I shop a few times a week and know how long it takes for fruit to ripen. I always have some ready and some not. Planning out your meals is a great way to be prepared. I know what I am going to eat beforehand.
