30 Bananas a Day!

If anybody knows...
1. My hubby mentioned that all those bananas are a lot of potassium and too much potassium is bad for your heart? Can you get too much potassium from bananas?
2. What about iodine in the 80/10/10 diet since seaweed and salt are out?
3. Has anybody healed hypothyroidism without taking thyroid? Will your body heal that on its own by eating right?

There isn't all that much potassium in bananas. Oranges and dates have a higher concentration. No, you can't get too much potassium, or pretty much any other nutrient, if you eat whole foods only. Supplements can cause you to get too much of something. As long as your kidneys are functioning properly you have nothing to worry about.
Okay. That's kind of what I thought about bananas. Thanks.
Can you show me the study or source where you learned whole foods can not absolutely give you too much of potassium or any nutrient?
First off what is your hubbies source?

Why do need just iodine tomatoes, celery, greens have useable salt.

It is not just about eating a clean diet but also sleeping, drinking exercising and having a purpose in life etc.
I don't know his source. He probably read it somewhere but it may have been referring to taking too much potassium in supplements or other form. For instance, he said one of the ingredients in lethal injections is potassium because it stops your heart. I'm sure there's a ton of potassium in that though.

So is there iodine in tomatoes and greens? I've been reading about goiter so I was wondering and also I'm pretty sure I have hypothyroidism and I don't want to take thyroid medication. But okay, so if I eat right and sleep right and exercise and all that, should my thyroid regulate itself?
Kristina - Hi! I am hypothyroid currently, and not taking medication. I am going to have it retested in another couple months, and I will post what the results are. I am expecting it to improve. I am allergic to drugs and also decided not to supplement with iodine - it doesn't sit well with me. If I don't have alot of improvement in a couple months, I'll do a homeopathic remedy.

I don't think we can overdose on nutrients when we are eating whole foods. My diet is loaded with potassium and my blood work is great in that area, and so are my kidneys. Supplements are where you can get out of balance, but not with food in my opinion.
Hi Kristina,

When I started 80/10/10 about a month and a half ago almost everyone I met (including my sister who was really supporting me) told me that eating more than one banana a day was dangerous and that I would end up in hospital. They all had stories of people that they personally knew who this had happened to aswell. I checked it all out online and it seems that if you already have kidney or heart problems that it actually can be dangerous because of the potassium levels. The two people that I knew of who ended up in hospital after eating one banana a day had some health problems. They were actually told by doctors that they were not to eat bananas! Maybe this is a particularly prevalent idea in Ireland! I really don't know.

The dosage of potassium in a lethal injection is extremely high. Apparently there is such a thing as potassium poisoning from any source, even fruit, but apparently the vomit-mechanism kicks in before any damage is done. So far I have eaten about four-five bananas a day on average in perfect comfort since I started even though I was scared by the stories. One day I had seven bananas but I had a tummy upset afterwards. I reckon this was probably because I'm just not used to that many at once. After all this site is called 30-bananas a day so all the long-time 811ers must be doing something right!
Eating bananas is perfectly fine if somebody has a heart condition. If the kidneys are functioning correctly potassium will not reach a dangerous level in the bloodstream. It is when potassium reaches a toxic level in the blood that a heart arrhythmia can occur.
A low potassium diet is not a healthy diet.
People with cardiovascular disease are often told to avoid potassium rich foods if they are taking potassium sparing diuretics.
Dear Kristina ♥
In answer to question 3, I believe that the endocrine system in many people becomes out of balance due to an unnatural diet and lifestyle. Imbalances of the thyroid are very common in Western Society due to our unnatural way of living.
However, our endocrine systems have the chance to rebalance and heal when we start eating a natural diet, get fresh air, enjoy sunshine, do appropriate exercise, and receive adequate rest.

I just yesterday read an account from Dr. Frank McCoy's book 'The Fast Way To Health', published in 1926, where he reversed a very imbalanced thyroid gland on an 18 year old woman using an Orange juice mono diet.
The girl monoed on Orange juice for 30 days, by day 20 her thyroid was functioning normally.

So it can be seen that a diet of raw produce combined with other lifestyle factors has the potential to allow the body to rebalance the endocrine system.

Best Wishes ♥
Love and Peaches,
from Anne XX.
Thank you! I really want to let my body heal naturally but after finding out about my thyroid, I didn't see a lot of options. But it makes sense that if I give myself what I need, I'll be able to balance out.
