DISCLAIMER: I'm not promoting the viewpoint of this video in anyway. The purpose of this thread is to "debunk" it (which shouldn't be too difficult).
Here is a video of Sean Cruxton interviewing Mark Sisson. Without saying his name exactly, Mark gives DR a shoutout when he starts talking about water, haha.
Anyway, I'm interested in your thoughts. What are the main flaws in what Mark is saying? Like, if some Paleo dude sent you this video, what would you tell them first?
I am particularly interested in thoughts on what he's saying about water consumption. He seems to have a point, although he says that consuming too much water will interfere with the digestive process. I don't find that to be the case at all. However, maybe that's because I'm eating fruit and not animal flesh.

Permalink Reply by Fennec on February 22, 2012 at 3:56am animal flesh needs more to break it down, some parts can't even be broken down. Water I am guessing dilutes digestive acids a bit so if you're eating meat it will make it more difficult for you.
I met a Paleo guy yesterday online just after reading some chunks of 80-10-10, he didn't really have any good arguments.
What he says about genes is probably true but nothing to do with eating "paleo". A lot of scientists now think genes are merely receptors which can be turned on or off by thoughts and feelings, or maybe food
For me the main problem with paleo is it's based on a flawed hypothesis, involving evoluton and "2 million years" of this and that.
It's not really about genes when he's talking about diabetes and things. It's to do with burnt out adrenals and things frome eating crap all your life.
This will make me unpopular but we were placed in a garden full of fruit to eat by the one who knew what we should be eating. Doug Graham makes it out quite well that we were designed to eat fruit as well.
Allergies and things usually come from milk. Read things about it before but in 80-10-10 Doug even goes as far to say hospitals would be empty if people stopped drinking milk. It's also true that everyone is lactose intolerant, just some people are less intolerant. So whether they give up milk going to paleo or hcrv they will see some benefits.
The guy looks quite unhealthy too. Skin hanging off his face, quite a bit of face fat (oestrogen does this). Has he only just started this diet or is it simply rubbish?
I've been watching now for 10 minutes, so far he has talked a lot but said nothing.
Sounds like he has grown tolerant to caffeine. I barely ever have it so when I do I get heart palpitations and lots of bathroom breaks.
But still, more of this "there was no food for 2 million years" lol.
The paleo diet is kind of what I leaned towards when I was an evolutionist because the arguments are all based on that. HCRV is based on nutritional facts and science, not evolutional hypothesis.
Permalink Reply by Jon on February 22, 2012 at 4:22am Yeah, I also think Mark doesn't look that great. And Sean looks OK but he's skinny, and that's something people accuse vegans of being.
Permalink Reply by WendyE on February 22, 2012 at 1:29pm How do these paleo people get around the fact that cavemen typically lived less than 30 years??
Permalink Reply by Diospyros on February 23, 2012 at 2:23am But still, more of this "there was no food for 2 million years" lol.
The tropics still existed and were warm during the ice ages. I bet humans lived there too, with plenty of food.

Coming Up Short: Grain Blamers And Climate Flickers
It's Curtains For The Expensive Tissue Hypothesis
Though I think all the science in them would go right over most of his fat head.

they don't look unhealthy or skinny to me. but who cares.
yeah guys lets start eating like cavemen again cuz thats what mark thinks is the ideal diet.
maybe if the diet works out really well we'll revert back into cavemen again and start beating each other with clubs.
what fun!
the only area paleo's and 811rs have in common is the detriments of grain tho, i do find that interesting.
Permalink Reply by Jon on February 22, 2012 at 5:42am I don't think they look unhealthy, just not the archetype of health that you should expect from the movement's leaders. Sean isn't *too* skinny, but a vegan with his physique would definitely get flack from Paleo eaters.
