30 Bananas a Day!

I ponder yet another subject, which is debated here.

Before I went completely raw, I had 2 days a week in which I ate completely raw (unfortunately not enough calorically, but I didn't know then...) I ate a whole lot of bell peppers. I also enjoyed eating the red peppers that look like jalapenos, but aren't/are mild just like bell peppers (I don't know the name of them in English, lol).

I admit that I miss eating my peppers and as long as it doesn't harm me, it would be great if I could re-integrate them into my eating. I also miss the little cherry- and grape-tomatoes. But I avoided them reluctantly as well (even longer than the peppers, even for years!) due to all these mixed messages going on around about them.

Before I go on any further for those of you who eat (and can afford to eat) organic, good for you. But - I'm not trying to make myself a victim when I say this - the fact is I (and surely others here as well) am in a situation where it is not financially possible for me to afford what's being labeled as "the better/best version" (organic). I am going to undertake as many plans as possible to see that I can buy my produce cheaper and still profit nutritionally....

BUT back to the real subject.................

What are your thoughts on tomatoes and peppers? Do you eat them? If yes, how do you feel when you eat them? If not, what are your reasons for avoiding them?

Some folks can eat them with no problems and others get rashes and joint pain, etc...do what suits you best:)

Thanks Februarygirl. :) If you don't mind me asking, do you eat them?

+1 listen to your body. the general consensus is the more advanced fruitarian you go, the less you will be drawn to them. but then again chris kendall loves them, so it depends on the individual mostly IMO.

Thanks daniel JOE cano. Though are there any other reasons - besides some reacting with rashes, joint pain etc. - why some people in the 811-community are hating on them? :p

I simply love tomatoes and eat at least 1lb per day.  Sweet peppers are also yummy.  Anything spicey is not to my liking.  Yes, I am totally organic. LOL

I hope your finances improve and you treat yourself to clean food sources.

I don't eat anything spicy either - stomach and tongue are TOO sensitive. Thanks, now I know what their called in English, lol.

I love love love tomatoes, but I have finally realized that I don't react well to them and have given them up, at least for now.  They make my body develop lots of inflammation, which is such a bummer.  Sigh.  Maybe I'll be able to handle a small amount at some point in the future, but I did a very careful elimination diet and it's clear without a doubt that tomatoes were causing really severe inflammation in my body.

I never really cared for peppers that much, so I'm avoiding them too after finding out about tomatoes, just in case it's all nightshades.  When I ate cooked foods, I discovered that I had a similar inflammatory response to potatoes, so I think it is likely that I would react to all nightshades - I just never ate enough of the others to notice.

Enjoy your tomatoes, you lucky folks who can handle them!

There's reliable anecdotal evidence linking them to arthritis and inflammation, but an immune response is only observed in a minority of people. If you suffer from inflammation, joint pain etc. then it's a good idea to trial a nightshade-free diet for at least 1 month.

There's no reliable evidence that supports a nightshade-free diet for people who do not notice an inflammatory response.

The active alkaloids in tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, aubergines, physalis etc. are all different and some people may be sensitive to one plant but not the others.

I loooove tomatoes and bell peppers. They are perfect when I want something savory. I never have any problems, but I also never eat them as an entire meal. I'll just eat a couple or toss them in a salad.

I've tried eliminating nightshades for a while, and did not notice a difference.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. It seems to me they are different for everyone - for some people right and some people wrong. They DO have vitamins, otherwise they wouldn't be worth eating and I also don't have arthritis, joint problems or have had any rashes as a result of them.

I feel you there! :)
