in the last months ive often checked my teeths. i hoped that my two holes will close up naturally during this lifestyle. Now there are about six holes in my teeths and im very disenchanted! I think i have to quit my low fat raw vegan lifestyle! im vegetarian for 4, vegan for 3 and (hclf) raw for one year. i always had the best tooths and no holes (as meateater, vegetarian, vegan). Now I eat a lot of calories, always on 811 or 955, checking my caloric intake daily (cronometer) and had 3000-5000 calories a day. I ate a lot of very ripe organic bananas or apples, sometimes durian, melon, (wild) greens and many vegetables etc.. I really dont know what to do, i love the way i eat but my tooths hurts very often when i'm eating fruit. I dont want to leave the "raw"-movement and i feal so great instead of my teeths. But six holes are enough.. I think that i will try the cooked 811 without a lot of fruits till tomorrow. I think I have to try cooked quinoa, buckwheat, oat, potatoes, sweetpotatoes etc. but i dont know how my body will react.
I love to call me a raw-vegan, feel great, gained muscle and support everyone during this lifestyle but for some reason i think its not for me or not yet.
I hope that you have a lot of tips for me because i dont want to fall in to a sad cooked diet because of my teeth....
When mouth pH is acidic, this can be a sign that bacteria are active in your mouth, as acid is a byproduct of their metabolism. This acidity can also be coming from your body, but since your urine in alkaline, this is probably not the case. But for a 811 newbie, they can have acidic bodies, especially with detox. Or perhaps there are still elements in their diet are are exacerbating an acidic condition. Eating more calcium rich foods will reduce body acidity. If the body is alkaline, and the mouth pH is alkaline, this will reduce bacterial proliferation in the mouth, reducing the chance of caries and tooth decay. If eating more calcium rich foods (cabbage, dark leafy greens, oranges, sesame seeds) doesn't get the mouth to an alkaline state, some temporary supplementation can do the trick until the mouth pH becomes alkaline. After being alkaline for some time, one can back off the calcium to see if the mouth remains alkaline.
This mouth acidity leads to the erosion of the enamel and creating better conditions for bacteria proliferation which cause tooth decay. In an alkaline mouth, the bacteria don't proliferate. No bacteria, no tooth decay.
Cool! I appreciate this explanation :)
Thanks Prana. I am still in transition and my teeth have gotten scary bad. But I know it will be from the cooked I am still eating (vegan) mixed with the fruit.
This is a great explanation you gave. I will get a calcium and vit d sup.
Would it be better to chew on something with calcium, like a Tums, to neutralize the acid in the mouth, or is it better to take a supplement for this?
Jay you haven't mentioned anything about your dental hygiene routine, that might help to shed some light on the matter! Your damage isn't the fruit's fault, it is the grains and meat that have been so abrasive and worn away enamel, leaving teeth more susceptible to issues like holes. How do you clean your teeth? Do you use a nice soft brush? How often do you brush? How often do you eat greens? Before you just give up on a lifestyle that you say you believe in, contact Durianrider or Freelee or Doug Graham. They will be able to help you and give the right advice.
yes, i really believe in this lifestyle. i brush my teeth 2-3 a day with a soft brush. i eat greens daily (wildgreens, cornsalad, a lot of celery, cucumber, arugula, dandelion etc.).
I also have problems with my teeth, but all of them are results of a sad or high-fat raw diet. Also I am only a few days on the diet, but I read a book from Dr. Schnitzer a German dentist who had a lot of success in healing tooth decay with a special diet which is mainly raw and based on fruits and vegs. After reading his book I think it is important to eat only 3 to 4 times a day and not greasing on fruit all the day long. After eating the mouths PH needs to build a new alkaline enviroment. You can support this progress by chewing greens, celery or cucumber (which is also a fruit) after your fruit meals. If you eat sweet fruit or other carbs your mouths PH will drop to an acidic state. This should be limited to a few times a day and also reduced by eating alkalizing foods afterwords. Hope that helps a little bit. All best to you!
yes thanks! most of the time i try to eat just a few meals a day and eat till i'm satisfied. maybe eating greens after my fruit meals is the key!?
It sounds like it has something to do with you diet ;). I also had problems with my teeth when I ate apples. I now eat oranges and my teeth are fine now. It maybe can also have something to do with the foods you combine, like eating apple with banana togheter. You can try to eat mono for a while.
95% i do fruit-monomeals. dont eat acidfruits because they hurt a lot. only when i get ultra-ripe ones.
You say you don't eat acid fruits, but as far as I know apples are very acid. I suggest to not eat them for a while and see if it helps.
yes, apples from a local farmer are the only acid-fruit i eat. i stay away from them, but then i only have bananas. there are no other ripe fruits available. and im sorry, but cant eat more than 25 bananas a day ... :D after maybe 10 bananas per meal my teeths hurts. i would love to have watermelons but cant pay 10 euro for one :(
