30 Bananas a Day!

My brother just called this the best pesto he'd ever had, after which I told his amazed face that it didn't have salt, oil, or harsh spices. My mom and I were eating this by the spoonful, amazed at how salty and rich it tasted--without salt or oil! Definitely the best 811--no, best raw, best vegan!--recipe I've ever tasted. This will be my go-to savory recipe to impress others.

It has a fair amount of fat--which is perfect for those of us who'd rather have larger amounts of fat, fewer times in the week. Especially coming from nuts, since I hate avocado...

In Vitamix:

about a cup of basil leaves

a small handful of parsley (w/o stems)

1/4 sun dried tomatoes (no salt, no oil), soaked (edit)

a teaspoon or two of lemon juice

medium stalk celery, chopped small

clove of garlic

medjool date

1 tsp dulse flakes

1/8 pine nuts*

1/8 c pecans*

1/8 c walnuts*

spot of tahini*

one dried olive (from Raw Food World)

EDIT: also add water from soaked toms

optional: one drop of mesquite liquid smoke

*Note: you don't have to use more than one or two kinds of nuts/seeds, but I thought it tasted good to not have one dominating flavor.

Sounds yummy! I want to try this! I am bit fearful of the dulse, though. Do you think it majorly impacts the flavor?

La Banane, I'm not sure! I know it would still be tasty without. I was trying to figure out myself whether the dulse contributes to a lot of the saltiness. The sun dried tomatoes, celery and parsley do a lot though, so I say go for it.

Is it okay without the garlic? I feel like that would be almost all of the flavor but garlic is a neuro-toxin and it's against the rules so you might want to delete it

I've noticed that half of all 811ers aren't opposed to garlic every once in a while. I promise it won't kill you. But if you're squeemish, scallions could be a good substitute.

garlic, onions, condiments, root vegies, superfoods, etc. are not the best source of nutrition according to Doug Graham.  Juicing is out except for Orange juice for some reason that is ok.

I do garlic daily. I have a wonderful green juice most days and orange juice I juice myself - both of them.  I am ok on onions and herbs.  And, I love 80/10/10.  Go figure. LOL

Sorry I didn't realize it was okay haha I actually thought you would get in big trouble with the garlic police. I don't really like it with fruit but I'll keep in mind that it won't kill me :P thanks

Have you tried the overt free Tomatoe soup that is in the 80/10/10 book yet?  It smells exactly like Campbell's soup and tastes heavenly.  Easy to make and no overt fats or additives.

What were the stats on the above recipe of yours?  Meaning what percentage of calories from fat was there?  Also, are you tracking your intake?

Stats always have to be taken in context. I eat 3,000 cals a day, and overts once or twice a week, so the fat ends up being below 10% for me (but may not be for someone who eats fewer calories, and fats more often)

I'll have to try that tomato soup. Thanks! I've given up fresh tomatoes for 3 or so weeks to see if maybe I was sensitive to them, and I thought I'd try the sun dried tomatoes first to see if maybe they're different somehow.

This pesto would be great for special occasions, especially for others to try to lure them in a bit. I'll probably be reverting back to my overt-free tomato sauce that I got into a few months back.

EDIT: I forgot to add that you pre-soak the tomatoes a bit, and some of the water to the mix to get it going (I used the vitamix and made it pretty smooth).

I just edited my post to inform that my brother just called this the best pesto he'd ever had! After which I told him that it had no salt, oil, or harsh spices... and his jaw dropped. I'm gonna be making this on a camping trip with friends of the family who are a bit skeptical of how I eat. Mixed with flat zuke noodles and heirlooms, for sure.

This was really good! I didn't add any nuts to it, and used cilantro instead of parsley (it's what I had), and no date. Still, super yummy! :)

Love the idea of dulse in it :D
