I've been LFRV for over two months. Was gourmet vegan for 6 months before that, cooked vegan for about 4 months prior to that, vegetarian for 2 years before that. Basically been constantly updating my diet for the last three years.
For the past 2 months my diet has consisted of at least 2500 cals/day of the following foods:
cantaloupe
dates
bananas
mangos
berries
figs
lettuce
cucumbers
tomatoes
limes and lemons (on lettuce)
a few ounces (I have a scale) of avocado when not following 955
occasionally orange juice (only way I can eat oranges- don't really like citrus)
Almost no NUTS (don't like them very much)
I will add persimmons and cherimoya when in season (can't wait!).
My acne has been worse than ever while raw (both gourmet and LFRV). My mom (who is an M.D.) and my derm keep pushing the antibiotics and warning me about permanent scarring.
I'm only 4 days into my new "non-regimen" so I don't want to get too, too excited. BUT, my acne is fading fast. Nothing was helping-- even going 9/5/5 for 10 days did NOTHING. I stayed on this diet because I believe in it and because my energy levels are through the roof. The acne persisted, though. 4 days ago I had just had enough and stopped washing my face (not even water) or putting any moisturizer on. Before this point I had used a gentle organic cleanser in the evenings followed by jojoba oil. In the morning I would splash my face with filtered water and use jojoba oil and occasionally zinc sunscreen (maybe 2x/week). My face was a wreck. Everyone around me (besides my wonderful husband) was questioning if it was my "extreme" diet that was making it worse. Perhaps for some people, like the beautiful Freelee, diet alone will clear their acne. For me, I now realize even gentle cleansing or using only filtered water to cleanse was stripping my skin of its own natural oil. Red marks are going away, no new pimples, experiencing a little dryness. I'm decided to post this in case any 811ers are still battling acne. This may not work for everyone, but it is working for me-- at least so far! I know how hard it is to commit to a diet like LFRV and still experience acne. There is hope!

I have seen posts saying to stop putting anything but water on the face. It's so good to read testimony like this!!! :)

Permalink Reply by Vegan Amanda on August 21, 2011 at 9:39am I was gourmet raw vegan, definitely high in fat, but not crazy high because I don't like nuts. I still ate a lot of fruit, but not as much as now of course.
It would be quite a coincidence if the *extremely* rapid healing of my acne just happened to occur at the exact same time that I quit washing my face. I think the timing suggests it had to do with the abandoning of previous cleansing rituals. From what I've read on here, it seems sometimes acne suffers on LFRV diets wait 6 months to "detox" when perhaps they should just stop washing their faces in addition to sticking with this diet...
Anyway... we'll see as more time passes whether this non-regimen really works!

Permalink Reply by PeachyPie on October 18, 2012 at 7:42am Hi I have the same problem as you did, and I was wondering if you still wash your face or not? And how is it working for you? I am getting so tired of my acne, and Ive been raw for over a year, and 811 for like 2 months. Do you just totally leave your face even when your in the shower, or do u use a brush to get off dead skin cells, or just totally leave it and never do anything to it???
Permalink Reply by Peter Csere on October 20, 2012 at 5:46am I am going to guess that now that she's stopped using soap, once her skin has a chance to heal a little, she'll be able to wash gently with water again. It feels nice and it's nice to be able to do that without breaking out.
Perhaps leave it completely alone for a little while, let it heal up a bit, and then begin washing gently with water.
When I was struggling with acne I noticed that the more I did to it, the more it popped up. Now I wash my face gently with cold water, or sometimes I just rinse it in the shower.

When people have acne and we suggest "stop using soap." Their reaction tends to be along the lines of "That's so extreme. I'm all for eating fruit but I'm not gonna do this extreme HCRV 30 bananas cult stuff like not using soap and taking cold showers and eating plain lettuce."
But, the results speak for themselves. Soap is drying and irritating whether it comes from animal fat or fancy herbal mumbo jumbo root. It's just the chemistry of soap, it's what it does, plain and simple. Some soaps are more irritating than others, and some skin is more sensitive than others. It just so happens that some people's skin can tolerate its drying effect, and some people break out in acne. Thanks for sharing your story, so that perhaps others with acne can benefit from your experience.
Permalink Reply by Richie Fruitbat on October 20, 2012 at 6:04am I had terrible skin when I first started, and for the first 6 - 8 months it got worse, and worse and worse. I only stayed with 811 because EVERY other facet of my health was so much better. Now I'm here 1 year and 7 months in and my skin is better than it's been since I was a child. it's not perfect, but it is improving slowly but surely. Maybe I'm taking longer to heal as I'm a little older (36.) but it's most definitely going in a direction I am pleased with. Sometimes you've just got to hang in there. You will have great skin. Your body will give it to you at it's own pace, but it WILL give it to you! :-D
