Hi, so for a few months now I have been becoming more depressed on this lifestyle because I have been becoming really forgetful, am stuttering alot more and my brain just isn't clicking like it used to. Apart from the above symptoms, I have also had trouble sleeping and have become even more sensitive to cold (despite the weather being 20 - 30 degrees). I have a sore throat most days, despite drinking 4.5 - 6 litres of water a day. I am not exercising that much due to tiredness.
I don't want to diagnose myself with anything, but from all the stories I have heard, I think it may be Candida. Would you suggest I go to a doctor and get it checked out? I'm just scared to go because I haven't seen my doctor for a while and she has no clue about my new lifestyle.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Permalink Reply by Juliana on April 20, 2012 at 8:22pm okay so probably jumping to Candida was a bit of a leap... I just want an excuse for school as to why i'm forgetting things in recipes and not doing so well overall. My friends are getting really annoyed because I keep messing things up and it can effect the production for everyone else. (and of course they blame the fruit).
I never thought about the yeast thing. I just can't wait for school to be over. I really wish I could stop, but I've paid for it and I don't like to be a 'quitter'.
I have had trouble sleeping, I'll try to get some more. That's interesting that lack of sleep drains B12.
Thanks everyone... =)
Permalink Reply by Fructose<3 on April 22, 2012 at 4:42am B12!!! That sound like b12 deficiency to me. I had similar symptoms a while back and took some blood samples. I found I was severely b12 deficient. And also lacked vitamin D and was anemic. I ate cooked food back then and was not vegan. Still got asked if I was though. Doctors don't know anything about nutrition.
Anyways, I think you should go to the doc and test for b12, vitD, iron, and such. I would also RUN to the store pick up the strongest b12 pills you can get and start downing it.
Permalink Reply by Juliana on April 22, 2012 at 5:31pm really... drown B12 pills? that does not sound to good! I have some that I take at the moment cause I really haven't looked into shots too much (i'll get to it) but I don't know if they're doing much... I take 2 a day.
I probably am lacking Vitamin D now that I think about it.... I spend 8 hours a day indoors for school, and between those hours I may a get 0 - 20 minutes break in which I can go in the sun. I am pretty much in a room all week days except for 1 hour... not good! I just quit the gym so I can start spending more time cycling and running outdoors (plus it was wasting money and I was bored!) ... on weekends I try to get as much sun possible!
It's probably anaemia too.... okey dokey! blood test it is! Do i just tell my doc I'm vegan? not raw and fruit? I don't want her insisting I take medicine, eat beans ect. cause then my family will lecture me... more than they already do.
Permalink Reply by Peter Csere on April 23, 2012 at 2:11am Before you go rushing off to the doc, try cutting out all overt fats like DR said.
If you decide to get B12 pills, make sure you get sublinguals that are NOT cyanocobalamin. If you do have a deficiency, get a shot not pills, and make sure it is NOT cyanocobalamin. Find a 811-friendly doc if possible. Call around to find a doc that won't lecture you and tell you to eat beans.
Permalink Reply by Fructose<3 on April 22, 2012 at 11:04pm Hi. I don't think you should tell your doctor you are vegan. Can't imagine anything good would come out of that. And about the b12 pills, I had super low levels (125ish) and wanted them up quickly. So I got the strongest pills I could find and took several a day. Sometimes 5 or so. I'm pretty sure you just pee out any excess and pills also don't get absorbed fully through the stomach. A couple of times, I felt a little too shaky and anxious, since b12 affects the nervous system, so I just took a break from the pills for a few days.
Permalink Reply by Juliana on April 24, 2012 at 10:41am okey doke... I will wait a bit before I head off to the doctors, and if I do go will hold off the vegan info.
Just a little bit of hope here, but I have cut out all overt fats for 5 days now, and yesterday going back to school I kept in time with the letcurer while everyone else was 15 - 30 minutes behind me... so yay! my ''motor' skills and memory were working well. Whether that has to do with the fat, or being away from the kitchen for the weekend and therefore in the sun.... i don't know. it's probably a combination of all. And also, the sore throats gone for now =)
though i'd say it was the fats mostly because thats the only thing that has really changed cause prior to that, I was still experiencing headaches, sore throats during weekends.
the sleep problem, I know now is a cause of stress.
however, i'm still really sensitive to the cold though... why is that? it's making me crave warm things like rice.
Permalink Reply by Stephanie McClennon on April 24, 2012 at 5:43pm try eating more cals from carbs. excess glycogen is burned in dietary thermogenesis, right DR? i eat loads of dates and i'm always pretty warm. if you want to eat warm things, try herbal teas. i like tulsi tea in the morning sometimes, but i usually go with fennel, lemon ginger, or nettle tea.
Permalink Reply by Juliana on April 25, 2012 at 11:14am Okay thanks =) I got home last night and had 40 dried dates (it's all I had, wasn't as good as fresh but it did it's job) and i'm feeling much happier today, not craving rice too much now.
I'll try a cup of tea tonight... the only reason why I've been avoiding it is cause it usually dehydrates me, but i'll see how I feel afterwards. Thanks again!
