I've read all posts here on sodium but still cannot figure out a way to manage without some salt.
I've had this problem in cold winter weather. Now I'm staying in Thailand and it's hot in here. I'm drinking up to 9 liters of water daily because I'm thirsty. I'm eating mainly bananas, mangoes, dragonfruit, papaya and coconut water. I'm not eating much greens right now and I haven't seen any celery.
I begun to feel weak and dizzy after a few days here and just had to get some salted nuts which helped. I have also now moved to a room with A/C.
How can I get enough sodium? I don't want to eat any nuts as I'm also trying to detox/heal while staying here. Carrot juice? More coconut water? If so, how much?

Not cos I need it but cos I eat out sometimes and there is salt in my salad etc. No biggy cos I move my body each day and it sweats out easily. People often are just under carbed and getting late nights and their adrenal glands are shot so their glycogen system aint flash and then everything else is shagged.
Before the bangkok marathon I was sure to NOT eat salt for the weeks before so my hydration was better
Running a 3:07 marathon in the Bangkok heat and pollution can kill you from dehydration if your not looking after yourself.
Get out of the AC man! That stuff is nasty dehydration station! Get a room with open flow air and a fan if you need it. I NEVER sleep with air con. It sucks the water out of your body.
Eat more sugar and cut out the coconut meat so your body absorbs the sugar better and you have enough glucose so your body can cool itself proper and stay hydrated.
Give it 2 weeks before your acclimated. Every hour in the AC is robbing your body of vitality and heat adaption.
I cycled 200km the other Sunday in Bangkok. Pee'd every 2 hours. Was strong all day long.

If the heat is enough so that the water drinking is reasonable (think about that carefully, please), then you need to substitute carrot juice or celery juice or anything salty juice for some of that water. Substitute, not add. Coconut water will also help, to a degree, but because of its high potassium content, it won't be as effective as carrot juice--if, and only if, you can actually stomach that stuff. ;P Potatoes juiced will also work well. Greens juiced in general will help you a bit. :)
Permalink Reply by Greenmama on March 5, 2012 at 12:36pm 9 liters is a LOT of water. I am concerned if you are that thirsty and drinking that much. There are a couple of serious medical conditions that have that level of thirst associated with them. Diabetes Incipidus (not to be confused with diabetes mellitus, which also can have symptoms of thirst).
You have already described the early stages of hypernatremia (water intoxication), so I would take this very seriously.
