Over the last two days I've heard this from a couple of people and also read a couple of blogs too. I'm just not convinced about the "cause" and "need" for a supplement. I totally advocate eating the right foods to get what you need. Surely the body reacts in different ways when making changes to raw, but with balance and a decent fluid intake wouldn't such symptoms subside?
In no way am I saying that the muscle cramps were not very real for those experiencing the pain, but I don't understand how they came to the conclusion that raw food is the cause.
What I have found is that this comes from individuals who refer to a periodic raw food detox - I'm not totally sure what that achieves if you head straight back to a SAD diet, which I cannot reiterate enough - but I give them props for taking the first steps.
I'd really like to help them and ease them into HCRV.

Raw food diets are mostly based on cashews, crackao and organic coconut oil. Throw in some kale. Now you have the standard 'raw food diet' 95% of newbies do and fail on. They spend a few thousand $ to the super food dudes and then its try the next diet.

Permalink Reply by DesertFox on April 20, 2012 at 3:38pm That sounds about right! I was feeling great for the first few months I went 100% vegan then I started to feel like crap! Dr. Cousens has a video about doing an all green diet/juice fast. That didn't work at all for me. I work a physical job and have to maintain a certain fitness level to stay employed. After I started to crash I went back to a vegetarian diet. It kept me level and my performance was still level. I was like WTH Im eating this diet I feel ok but still like crap sometimes and I am not improving at all in my fitness. Then I ran across this no BS guy called DurianRider. I was like holy 5%$#, this makes sense that is exactly what I was feeling. Even when I did my first juice fast (lost 25lbs) I noticed fruit juices gave me crazy energy like drinking a red bull compared to green juices. I decided to try it out and transitioned back to a vegan diet based on fruit. Four weeks ago I was finally the pack leader in our group 5k runs for work, first time in 8 years! I started working out everyday a few weeks ago and now my energy and fitness is blowing up. Im one of the oldest shortest least athletic guys running and I have been first for the past month in our 5k runs! This is compared to athletic guys who have been exercising and working out daily for years. My buddy who drinks this protein powder everyday is fat and slow. He is basically drinking weigh powder which is a food filler ( I use to work in a Ice Cream Factory) Its what gives all ice cream the yellow tint. It is unhealthy total crap that makes you fat. They sell over runs of ice cream to pig farmers to make pigs fat! I don't have a degree in nutrition but I can say this life style works for me. You can get cramps for a number of reasons. If you drink too much water while exercising you can also cramp up. I have never personally had or felt a detox phase but I have felt that hit the wall this crap isn't working phase while eating mostly Kale salads, cacao, and other crazy recipes that take almost a day to prepare.
