Permalink Reply by Peter Csere on June 8, 2012 at 3:05am It's very tasty. Compared to other grains (although there are frivolous people who like to jump in and say 'um no dude it's a seed') it is much tastier and easier on the palate than, say, plain brown rice or plain millet.
Of course there's a complicated chemical explanation but it boils down to that.

Permalink Reply by Hailey Ashton on June 8, 2012 at 5:07am overall quinoa is probably one of the healthiest cooked carb imho. You can rinse off the saponins by soaking and rinsing it. The quinoa will sprout in under 5 hours and once its sprouted it becomes alkaline and the macronutrients break down into sugars, aminos ex..just dont cook it for to long once its sprouted. Forbidden rice aka black rice is another is another high quality cooked carb because it is not as hybrid.
Permalink Reply by Dovima on June 9, 2012 at 4:53pm I soaked, sprouted and rinsed quinoa extremely thoroughly and still got a stomachache from the saponins.
Permalink Reply by Eliot W. Collins on June 12, 2012 at 4:50am How do you know that it was the saponins that gave you a stomach ache? I have occassionally eaten quinoa and it has never given me a stomach ache.
Permalink Reply by Eliot W. Collins on June 8, 2012 at 5:36am I eat quinoa occassionally. I rinse it well and then put 1 cup of quinoa in one quart of boiling water and continue to boil for two minutes. Then turn off the heat, let it sit for an hour and it's done. Is this cooking or soaking? I do not care! I eat whatever I want, and doing this once in a while will make little difference.
Permalink Reply by apple@li on June 8, 2012 at 10:03am Funny you say that.. cause that happens to me... whether it be apples, oranges, carrots, jicama, potatoes, sweet taters, spaghetti squash, butternut squash, (even bananas...which I totally cannot eat~allergic.) It's like once I get a taste of something, I'm hooked and can't get enough of it! And just want that morning, noon and night! lol It's like I'm addicted to it. Maybe that bloodstream thang has something to it??? My mom says I'm so fickle and weird about my food, maybe it's my addictive personality?? I am sure if I had some millet, quinoa, or rice (which I haven't crossed over and partaken of yet) I would be hooked too! ;)
Maybe you're just hungry for carbs and it's a yummy carb, sooooo therefore, eat up! :)
Permalink Reply by Jon Fergus on June 8, 2012 at 10:48am How much fruit are you eating?
Would you be craving anything other than fruit if you were eating adequate cals from fruit?
Important initial questions to ask when one is craving cooked foods.
Permalink Reply by TheBananaGirl on June 12, 2012 at 10:49am After our 1 week trial of the high carb cooked vegan forum we have decided to move any discussions about cooked food to a specialised group. It was going well however we can see the potential for the cooked food discussions to overrun the home page and we want to keep the forum on the HC raw vegan track as much as possible. All discussions about cooked food will now be closed and a note added about them being moved to the group. Feel free to discuss high carb cooked vegan foods/meals there.
Thanks for working with us!
