I ask because I have a trans friend and she's expressed interest in this lifestyle but she has to take Spironolactone to avoid complications from her anti-androgens, and I guess its such a concentrated amount of potassium she had concerns about the staples of eating this way: Bananas and dates.
This would also relate to me cause I'm starting MY transition when I get out of service this year so any help would be awesome. I'd hate to have to make compromises :/
Thanks.

Permalink Reply by Lacey Rae on February 15, 2012 at 2:07pm I used to take this for acne breakouts during my first try on HCRV (not because of HCRV, my bad skin was a result of my SAD diet) and while I wasn't eating as many bananas then (probably between 5-12 a day), my blood work always showed up the same. I didn't seem to be storing potassium. I'm still on Ocella, which is an oral contraceptive, and my doctor told me it has the same ingredient as Spironolactone in it. It's rare for me to eat less than about 15 bananas a day now but my blood work has still always come out the same. There was a time I was on both of these (not knowing I was doubling up) and still, my blood work was totally normal. As long as I follow 90-100% HCRV (with the exception of the Ocella) and get plenty of sleep, I feel healthy and seem to be okay with the ingredient in Spironolactone.
So to sum up, I think you'll be totally fine. Good luck =)
