30 Bananas a Day!

Hi Y'all! I've been gearing up for the last month to go LFRV this Saturday I'm taking the dive (as my hubby is going out of town for 5 weeks!)! Done my research, started experimenting with foods, and ready to go full on 100% raw. Since I truly believe each person reacts differently to different foods, I'll be recording and tracking several health measures regularly along the way, from weight to body fat to endurance to blood pressure to mood and general feelings of well being and adjusting accordingly (and recording it all on my blog for record). I was hoping to get a blood test before starting to have a baseline but I'm not sure I'll get to it before Saturday. I like to be scientific about things that are this life changing.

ANYWAY, I live in a small town with a tiny farmers market (with very limited selection since it's pretty much desert out here) that I'm going to hit Saturday and a natural foods store that has amazing yet limited fruit, but a majority of my fruit will be from supermarkets. I heard from a coworker that his wife really likes the fruit from our local Sam's Club, but our WalMart (the same owner as Sam's) has horrible rotten fruit so I'm unsure of Sam's.

I know it will vary store to store, but does anyone have any experience with Sam's Club produce? It would be very nice to pay bulk volume prices (and my only other option is HEB, which is OK but very crowded). I calculated that with just 15 bananas a day, Sam's would save me near $3000 a year (over $200 a month) just on bananas. I'll pay for quality but that's a nice chunk of my salary I could use elsewhere if it's not a huge difference :-D. But I spend that much on junk food at the moment so it's not like I'd be broke :-P. Probably a net gain either way.

Just wanted to say what a nice group of people y'all are. I've been reading these discussions for a few days now (since I found the site) and I'm amazed at the love and respect shown to all parties involved in sometimes intense discussions. And I'll admit to browsing the member files and noting what a healthy happy glow everyone has!

Cheers,
Gigi

Thanks, Sydney!

I went to my local Sam's and after tasting the grapes, watermelon, and pineapple, I think I'm going to stick another store for most of my produce. I imagine the bananas might be fine after they ripen since I've never had a bad banana. Our store is smaller than most, so that might be the problem. There wasn't much variety and no organic. No problem! I have a few other stores to try :-).

Thanks for the advice on buying ahead of time!
I live in Austin, TX and at my Sams, there is no buying in bulk, but better prices than the more popular stores, and quality is pretty good. Nothing ever bad.
I have found that the fruit from Sam's is usually not ripe even though it looks pretty.
Debbie, this is what my fruit I got from there seems like. Looks pretty, but the watermelon was tasteless and had some hard areas and other fruits were sour.
never been to sam's. when I was in AZ I got some good produce at costco.. locally grown pesticide free tomatoes (best tomatoes I had when I was there), some excellent cantaloupe from costa rica (convetnional), organic spinach at a good price. lotta variety of stuff. I buy direct from a wholesaler here which is by far best value but if your options for buying in bulk are limited might be worth the membership price at costco.
