30 Bananas a Day!

hi guys,

since I started astanga I have felt so balanced, bot two weeks in, my right shoulder really started to hurt. It has now come to the extent where I can hardly move.

I am only 20 I should not get an injuiry this early.

I cannot move and that is leaving me in a rather unpleasent state of mind.

I cannot eat everytime I try to put something in my mouth there is a voicein my head "why are you eating when you cannot move, you fat cow".

my yoga and my exersize is what keeps me alive, if i can never do it again I simply feel like I cannot survive. I am crying so much and I feel extremely anxious. I actually had no idea that I was this addicted to my exersize.

please someone tell me my shoulder will get better. I just got a zumba certificat and I cannot work with it, with this shoulder. I have an audition for a job friday and if I do not go, I do not get it. And it is so hard to get zumbajobs here.

how I am feeling right now takes me right back to my anorexic days, I feel trapped in my body, a body way to big for me, I feel so anxious and restless.

I am so sorry to bring theese sad posts lately, but I really need someone to tell me something. I am going mad.

Will my shoulder heal? I have to practice for the zumba audition and I really want to go to my astanga class tomorrow morning.

Rest. It is as simple as that. STOP! Trust me you will heal.

Remember Tilden: There are only TWO secrets to healing:

1. Complete Rest

2. Abstinence from abuse

That's it.

Thank you chris.

Can you elaborate on abstinence from abuse?

Forget your class. To go there would be a sign of madness.

I could not agree more - Stop training for now and rest. It's that simple.

Keep an eye on the way you are using your hands when lowering to half press up position. Knuckles should be down, fingers stretching forward and elbows going backwards. Also keep an eye on the right collarbone. Make it's not shortening. Rest is a good start and look into some wrist therapy exercises which can help release shoulder, elbow and neck issues. Hope that helps!

thank you all.

It is really wierd. The pain now moved over to my left shoulder and down my lower back. I am wondering if it is a part of detox even though I have not been 100%

Hi there, I agree wtih Chris rest is ideal together with hydrotherapy (ice the area).  You may want to seek out a certified Iyengar teacher. I had bursitis in my shoulder 11 years ago and I was totally cured within a short time thanks to Iyengar yoga and resting from what aggrevated it (at the time that was working out like a typical gym rat and massage therapy)  I still practice massage tx. now and have been doing so for 15 years.

If you think it is a muscle problem, go to a massage therapist.  Even one treatment with proper stretching afterwards may be able to solve it.  It you think it more a joint/nerve issue, go to a chiropractor.

And please - REST!  There is no harm in not going to your classes for a couple of days.  I promise!

Is it the rotator cuff? The muscle itself? You could be just sore. No way to tell with the information you gave here. If it's sore just do some other workout that doesn't stress the shoulder. Cycling and running is awesome.

Next time make sure you are using correct form and technique. I used to get shoulder injuries a lot from swimming when I started out until I improved form. If an injury, look to the advice of those people who already posted... take a few days off.

are there any issues with movement as of sound, lock up etc? if so It get an mri scan, to check cartilage if its damaged.

it seems to be the muscle in the midle og the area from the neck to end of shoulder. It is like a burning sensation inside the shoulder and it sometimes says a click sound when mooving
