Sooooooo I was about to be HCRV for 3 weeks today, but last night I found myself eating organic chocolate covered cranberries.
It was somewhat unintentional because they were on the table and I didn't realize what I was doing until about 5 pieces of chocolate later.
I know why I was doing it. I'm pretty sure it was because I'm about to start my period in a week. I always crave junk like chocolate and potato chips a week before my period starts. I had gotten rid of all of my cravings from my cooked vegan diet, and then screwed up again. After I ate the chocolate I started throwing up, which is rare for me because I never throw up.
I guess what I'm wondering is, does anybody else get these cravings? Usually if I have a sweet tooth... well I'll just eat fruit! I also have been eating a lot of nuts which is something I tend to do before it starts. I supposed I'd eat a bit of nuts and dates to combat my sweet tooth but, sometimes if I get a bad date in the morning, I can't really eat anymore that day. Yesterday when I woke up, the first think I took a bite out of was a date that was black in the middle.
What should I do to detox? Can I drink some natural organic detox tea that I have, and then just drink water all day, and start back up on fruit again tomorrow?

I used to get sweet/junky cravings the week before my period. Not at all since I've been on 3000+ calories a day, I don't feel like a period depletes me in any way now. Maybe you could try boosting your calorie intake super high in that week?

I thought upping my calories a week before would be a good idea, I also don't want to gain weight.
I suppose i can eat a few more bananas or dates.
I crave nuts and seeds too much before also.
I don't really have a problem being raw vegan, but lfrv kinda kills me. I love pistachios.
Permalink Reply by Lucid Catnaps on April 18, 2012 at 7:15am I love, or loved, fatty nuts and seeds and coconut butter etc, and used to eat a lot without thinking about the quantity, but since I've been eating such high carb cals (2 1/2months) I have little desire for them. I like the taste of avos and pumpkin seeds, but don't 'need' to eat very much, and I cannot even stand the taste of coconut butter now! I think it's the calories I was craving as much as the taste.
I'm not keen on getting fat either! But now I am tracking my nutrition with cronometer, I am absolutely astonished at how much fat I used to eat without realising. 20g pumpkin seeds on a salad is enough to satisfy now, and it's over 100 cals! I used to throw handfuls of seeds into museli, then handfuls into lunch and dinner, big splash of olive oil etc... I must have easily eaten over 1000 cals healthy fats in a day.
Do you track your cals to see exactly how much you're getting, and from what?
Eating this way I have gained some weight, but lost some girth on the arms and legs so far. I'm putting my faith in carbs being more easily metabolised than fat, so any remaining chub will burn off :)

Permalink Reply by Peter Csere on April 18, 2012 at 7:06am Freelee says that women who are starting their periods should eat 500-1000 additional fruit calories daily and avoid overt fats altogether. So sounds like you should up your intake and avoid overts about a week before your period starts.
You don't need to do anything to detox, since your body will detox itself and most herbs designed to "detox" actually are toxic themselves and stimulate the body to eliminate the herb rather than eliminating the toxin that is in there in the first place. However, the tea will not kill you so if it makes you feel better, drink the tea, but don't drink water all day as you might just have more cravings later. Just eat more fruit and get enough carbs.

I feel like if I had just eaten more calories I could have avoided this issue alltogether!
Thank you guys for the help. I think I am going to start omitting overts in general. That's what avocados are for right? :P
If you eat enough fruit you can actually have about one avocado a day or every second day depending on how many calories you eat besides the avocado, and stay well within the 80/10/10 range over the course of a longer period.. (don't mean period literally btw haha).
