30 Bananas a Day!

I have seen a lot of recipes on the site with onions, and i'm just wondering what peoples experiences are with them. Are they okay on digestion? etc..

I recently asked a question on mushrooms, and I learned my lesson, believe me, those things in excess are not good on my digestion. No pain, but I want optimal digestion.

So i'm all ears, i'm ready to learn something new.

I have always loved raw onion, but I thought that I had read way back that it wasn't "optimal".

I love onions. Unforunately, they don't feel the same way about me. We've tried to work through our differences, but every time I start letting myself forget about why I've left them in the first place, BAM.

Onion stink.

That and garlic and spices- I love them, but they seep out through my pores and make me REEK.

Also, just kind of speculating- wouldn't a certain amount of "stimulant" for the digestive systems and all that be sorta good, since it'd keep your innwards working harder towards optimal-ity? Kind of like a mini-cleansing seession, only with this it'd be like running a marathon for health.

Also, I have a confession. I love love love them cooked (even just chopping them up and frying the little buggers in their own onion juice).... but I very, very rarely let meself do that.
onions and garlic are also natural antibiotics. I love my friendly bacteria, and they love me.

Yeah I'm wondering about this - wanted to *bump* it back to the top.

I'm wondering if there's any other savoury taste that people add to dressings and salads that don't cause the aftertaste and stomach feeling I get after eating onions.

What savoury tastes are there out there? I only really use tomatoes, lettuce and cucumber and I'm always craving olives and onions and salt basically. Any good herbs people use?

Chives are a good alternative, and grow all over the place in the wild. I have em poppin out all around my house now. Prolly not an optimal every day food, but are good to give a onion/garlic flavor to a dish without the harshness

Chives are great if you are craving an onion or garlic taste. So are onion sprouts - they are quite spicy, so a little bit goes a long way in a salad. I agree with Ryan that these aren't ideal foods but still better than onions or garlic.

Dr. D recently commented on VegSource that he finds "super sweet" onions to be "quite acceptable." Maybe you would like a sweet onion in a dressing!

For salt, definitely eat some celery. Celery blended with mango or basically any other fruit is a popular dressing. A good muskmelon may also help with your salt cravings.

For herbs, I love curly parsley, cilantro, sorrel (great sour taste), thyme, and I adore purslane!

i LOVE sorrel! It's definitely one of my favorite sidewalk delicacies :)
