Yeah I'm wondering about this - wanted to *bump* it back to the top.
I'm wondering if there's any other savoury taste that people add to dressings and salads that don't cause the aftertaste and stomach feeling I get after eating onions.
What savoury tastes are there out there? I only really use tomatoes, lettuce and cucumber and I'm always craving olives and onions and salt basically. Any good herbs people use?

Permalink Reply by gvn2fly kristin on May 1, 2011 at 9:55am Chives are great if you are craving an onion or garlic taste. So are onion sprouts - they are quite spicy, so a little bit goes a long way in a salad. I agree with Ryan that these aren't ideal foods but still better than onions or garlic.
Dr. D recently commented on VegSource that he finds "super sweet" onions to be "quite acceptable." Maybe you would like a sweet onion in a dressing!
For salt, definitely eat some celery. Celery blended with mango or basically any other fruit is a popular dressing. A good muskmelon may also help with your salt cravings.
For herbs, I love curly parsley, cilantro, sorrel (great sour taste), thyme, and I adore purslane!
