Hey hey banana friends!
Some days I just do not have the TIME to eat enough calories... especially when I am working.
So is 2litres preservative free (or freshly squeezed when avail) a good option to get the calories in??
Yesterday I ate about 1600 calories by 3pm (way too little but was flying the whole day)... then I had 10 bananas... then I went on a 2hour30min tough hike...
When I got back I was way too exhausted and tummy in a knot to eat.. so I had 2 fruit smoothies made with fresh fruit & ice.. (400 cal each)...I realise the hike mustve burnt off 1600 calories... my bad. I was just so excited about my new active lifestyle and I went and hiked up Lion's head in cape town and did all the toughest routes.. was amazed how strong and fit I am now : )) Yayyyy for vegan energy!! But calories were not enough. Help!
My question is...
Are OJ and smoothies ok when travelling all the time and when needing to get in calories.
To help you understand better- I am an airline pilot... so we spend a lot of time flying and it's not easy to pack all the calories for a flight nor to get sufficient calories in or near hotels. I eat lots of bananas, dates, berries, baby marrows, tomatoes, apples and then to help get in cals I have juice wherever I can... even if it is on the flight and even if it is the preservative kind.
As an example : I flew 5am-2pm yesterday. I'd usually get to the hotel and sleep from flight fatigue but instead... I hiked for 2hrs30! WOW for new lifestyle!!!
Today I flew again from 5am-3pm.
Tmr I fly 5am-2pm.
This is a 3 day pairing where we spend every night in a diff city. It's hard to pack and challenging to find the amount of bananas I need. I asked the GM of the hotel to bring me 24 bananas... how classic to see 2 waiters carry 2 large bowls with a total of 24 bananas. "What are you going to do with all of these?!!" "Take them on a hike" I said. Lol.
Here's pics of the manager's kindness (even though the bananas were a bit small LOL)... and the hike! : ))
I know DR mentioned that rather than become undercarbed he would rather have non-preservative fruit juice instead which should be easily accessible. Possibly this could be a backup for you?
awesome exciting life! nice. yeah, i think just keep doing what you're doing; staying super hydrated and carbing up to make sure you're ready for all the stuff you do. as a backup, like carlos and durianrider says, it's good. and, better yet, if you wanna make it easier, get like a bunch of smoothies made that can keep for a few days in your fridge all the time and a couple of containers, and all sorts of dehydrated snacks in a pack that's always a simple one to have on hand whenever you need, too.
if you get a day off here and there, that's the best time to find the stuff you want to put together for the days you're on. this way, your lifestyle awesomeness fuel will be all set for you. take care and have fun for those of us that need to live vicariously thru your success right now. ;oD
