30 Bananas a Day!

Not sure if I am eating enough. Help would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi 30BaD,

I'm pretty new to following the 80/10/10 lifestyle, about a month or so in. So far the results have been amazing, as I used to be on total bed rest for a condition that the doctors still haven't put a name to. Now, I am thankful to be able to take my dogs for their daily walk and go for groceries, the little things like that. Even my teeth that were decalcifying and needed tons of dental work are healing themsleves!!!

However, because of my inactivity, I am really hesitant to eat the suggested 2500 calories a day. I'm scared that I'll pack on the pounds like I did when I was eating a cooked vegan diet. So right now I am eating around 1400 calories a day, but I am one cranky you-know-what. And last night I totally slipped because I was craving something savory and grabbed take about at my fave cooked vegan restuarant only to have all my old symptoms return full force. This morning I feel awful. But I don't know what to do calorie-wise (is this a sign that I'm not eating enough carbs or am I not eating enough variety), so I was hoping I could get some advice. Thanks so much 30BaD! Have a healthy day :)

it sounds to me like you already know what you need to aid to your diet/health and energy...and your looking for TLC.

..well i love you! :D

 - eat up! whatever you enjoy..eat lots! worry about variety once your eating enough and if your board with what your eating.  have you read 801010? if not read it, now! i think banana island, (you eat nothing but nanas) is a great way to start. you can always do it with a saled at the end of the day as well.  i'll usally get anywhere from 1000 - 3000 cals a day from bananas. when low on ripe nanas my cals increase as i then increase the amont of date i buy, and i love dates! absolutly love them!

eat, eat, eat! better to eat to much in the begining rather than to little  :)

Thank you so much for the advice! It was just what I needed :) Just as soon as I'm done writing this, I'm going to pick up 80/10/10 and spend today reading. Again, thank you so much. You're right, a little TLC and guidance was all I needed :)

any time.

..I recently injured my ankle and as such wasn't doing much exercise. my cal intake didn't change however as i love eating!!  my weight stayed more or less the same. don't worry about it..when i started running agen any bloated-ness that i felt was there, (everyone elce would remark how skinny, lean, toned depending on their perspective) droped after a day or two. i think it was more in my head than enything! eat, Eat, EAT!! ;)

The more you eat, the better you'll feel. That's what I'm experiencing !

Never feel guilty for something you eat. Guilt is really negative I find, in every single way... It can't bring you something good. You'll just notice that the more fruits you eat the better you feel, so you'll not want something else, naturally. Well... I say you, but that's what I experience !

I know that I don't do good at 1400 calories ! I'm recovering from an eating disorder, and whenever I eat slightly less then I truly need, the obsessive thoughts of restriction and the desire to engage in unhealthy behaviours come back boom !

We are brainwash to think that we need to limit our calories intake, that it's normal to eat 1400 calories (or less) and most diets have about 1200 calories. That's insane, because you can't feel good on that short term I think, even less long term.

I adore banana smoothies (I now eat my bananas ripe, most people who say "too ripe", but if it's really spotty it is SSSOOO GOOD !) And I often eat it with celery. It gives me crunch, and for some reason, I really crave it !

I always remember a sentence Harley says "Eat more to live more". I'm living more !!!!
talk to you soon !

I would say if you are cranky and hungry --- that is a good sign your intake is too low. You can always increase gradually over time. Maybe now you can set a goal of 2000 calories, and go up slowly from there. If you let yourself go hungry --- you may end up eating cooked after a few days. And going back and forth all the time. Don't forget the other important components of the lifestyle like sleep, lots of water and your pound of greens! Take care!

Hey James,

That's awful that you hurt your ankle! But I'm glad that it's recovered now and you were able to get back to running. I want so badly to learn to love running, haha. I'm definitely a gym, cross-fit, and yoga girl. Running has always been a challenge for me. I just can't relax into it. Needless to say, I am now jealous of your running skills, haha. Oh, and I've taken you're advice and have adopted a banana island philosophy....bananas in everything!! And I love it! Thanks again :)

Thanks so much for your advice, Lala and Emmie! I've slowly been increasing my calories, and I'm feeling so much better :) I think that the hardest part of this whole thing is letting go of the whole calorie restriction mentality. I've spent my whole life doing that, especially when I was training. Slowly but surely that will all be in the past. And I love that quote, by the way: Eat more to live more. I think of it every day. Thank you so much. Have a healthy day :)
