30 Bananas a Day!

For those who have stopped using shampoo, how does it affect your hair if you go to the stylist and get a haircut/style, and have your hair shampooed there? Or just if you use shampoo after not using it for awhile? I mean, if you haven't used shampoo in a long time and then you do, is it no big deal, or does your hair get yucky for awhile afterward and you have to go thru the whole process of adjusting to no shampoo again (which I've heard can take awhile--to get nice hair w/o the poo)? I am not quite to the no poo phase. I want to be, and have gone without it more in the past, but I currently have a style that doesn't look very good without product and blow-drying. I'm trying to grow it out into a different style.

Thanks!

I don't think I would have been able to transition to not shampooing using regular shampoo but I switched over to using Morrocco Method shampoos and products and now I can go days just washing my hair with water.

I highly suggest looking into these products, they are the most natural I have ever some across. The shampoo is kinda like putting mud on your head and does not really sudz up. Plus I hardly ever use conditioner, the Morrocco Method conditioner is a spray herbal tonic that again is nothing like regular conditioner. Both my boyfriend and I have only been using these products for months and months now and our hair looks better than it ever has, plus I swear my hair grows faster. Another part of his hair care regimen is daily brushing your hair with a natural bristle brush which he says cleans your hair more then washing. I find that this is really important and something to get in the habit of doing.
I agree that using no shampoo is the goal but I really have enjoyed switching to these products and using less and less on my hair.
Yes it does make your hair fuller and thinker! It has also brought out the natural wave in my hair which I love, my hair was straight using regular shampoo and now its wavy and shiny and full.
Well as far as cost goes you start by getting the 4 different shampoos and you rotate using a different one each time you wash your hair, so even though initially it might seem expensive those 4 shampoos can last you quite awhile and since I wash with water in between some shampoos I stretch it out even more. Steer clear of the CHI instant conditioner that is sold as a shampoo, it sucks! I don't really know what to do with it, it just coats my hair and leaves it gross! I use the spray in moisturizing conditioner and volumizing conditioner only and usually I use nothing, just the shampoo, its like once you get used to it you only need the shampoo and maybe a few sprays of conditioner if you have tangles.
I have also tried the Zen Detox which is like a mud mask that you put all over you head and leave on for 20 minutes. That was amazing after I washed it out in the bath and let my hair dry I swear my hair has never looked better in my whole life. You only use it a few times a year as a scalp detox. I used to color my hair for years and had bad itchy flaky scalp and using these products completely healed my head and I started using them after I had not colored my hair in 3 years and I was still having problems. I highly recommend them, they are very different from regular shampoo but once you get used to it you will never want to go back! Also they have a great forum on the website where you can talk to people about using the products, henna, healthy hair habits and lot of other stuff.

What is also interesting is that Anthony Morrocco encourages people to cut their own hair he says you hair will look better and be healthier, he says that the way your hair is cut determines alot. He talks about it on the forum and its interesting, I cut my boyfriends hair now and it looks really good!
I am growing out my layers and bangs but I am going to start cutting my own hair also.
I should also add that after I use the shampoo once I start adding water to the bottle and and this also makes it last longer. It seems that the shampoos are quite concentrated so you can dilute with water.
Thanks (Leah?), those products look interesting. I will check them out. I need something for now and everything bugs my scalp.
Hey Laurie

Just over 3 years ago I stopped washing my hair with organic shampoos and started using lemon juice. I washed my hair as normal with water then used the lemon juice in place of shampoo rubbing it in thoroughly into all of my hair. I used to wash it with lemon juice every other day, and just use water the other days. After the first week I just started using it twice a week, and kept doing that for abit, then once a week, then not at all. Worked a charm.

I got my hair cut twice at a salon in the first year, and let them use hair products to wash it those times, since they werent tested on animals. I just used lemon juice a couple of times when I washed my hair the next few times, alternately. I only did it for about a week or so each time. That was all I needed.

I started cutting my haiir myself after that. I shaved it off before I went to a fasting retreat then cut it myself when it started growing. Its long again now, and I still dont wash it.

I decided to go to a salon at xmas last year (big mistake...just because I didnt like the hair cut...I much prefer my own cuts Ive decided), and let them use products again. I didnt even bother with the lemon juice afterwards and it was fine within a few days. Just needed to dry it thoroughly.

I dont colour my hair though, or perm it or do anything like that, so I dont know what impact lemon juice/water washing would have on treated hair. Im pretty sure its ok though.

Take care

Good to know, Adam. Glad occasional washing doesn't throw things off too much. Thanks for the reply.
I have to say though that if you go to a salon where they use just regular chemical concoctions on your head the occasional washing will throw you off. I went to get my hair cut and was really debating whether to let them wash my hair with their shampoo but I went ahead. Not only did my hair smell like Lysol (to me anyways) for a week my itchy yucky scalp thing came back for the week too and it didn't matter how much I washed my hair at home. I would avoid, I will not be making this mistake again! If you have scalp issues, avoid!!

Dear Bloggers,

We agree that it can be hard to go without shampooing your hair. Like leahceleste
mentioned, our shampoos are a great alternative because they are made from the
most natural ingredients. We recommend rotating all shampoos to achieve maximum results. Our Zen Detox is a great way to get rid of unwanted toxins from the scalp and oil glands. It is a safe cleanser for those with chemically sensitive hair. Also, a great way to avoid the problem of using salon shampoos when getting your hair cut is to shampoo before your hair appointment. In addition, be sure to avoid hair drying and using hair styling products at the end of the hair cut. Using a hair dryer and other products can severely damage hair and
add unwanted chemicals. We hope this was helpful! Please follow us on Facebook and Twitter!

Good luck,

Anthony Morrocco
