30 Bananas a Day!

Hi y'all,

I saw some really amazing youtube videos and stories about 80/10/10 diet and totally want to give it a try. I do need some tips about how to transition from vegan diet to 80/10/10, and how to deal with social situations. I mean, I am already having a hard time trying to figure out how to be vegan around people. :( HELP!

Also needing some tips about how to living under (college kid) budget in Germany since I don't really speak the local language. Oops. :P Fruits just seem like a luxury item in Germany, and I don't really know how to look for bulk/whole food dealers here. Do you guys have a database for it? Or tips for how to find them?

What can I do when I just crave some warm meals? I've notice that my body (or more like my belly) just really want some warm food to warm up, especially in the evenings. Too much cold or uncooked food tends to give me some digestive problems.

What to do during winter?

Thanks for helping! I can't wait to begin this new life style! :)

Hello bellashsin,

if they're friends, especially if they are close friends, they will respect your food choice.

If they doesn't they aren't true friends. Friends are helpful and respectful and nice to have around, even if you eat totally different.

Easy.

But as Whitedi ellen already said: why change your friends? There is no need for. Why not using it as a life lection? Just some more learning for all of you, especially regarding respecting other peoples choices. If they turn out to be completely unwilling doing so, see above. Then they never were real friends in the first place. But now it's just some startup trouble which will hopefully fade away very soon and easy.

Hi,

They are supportive, with a spice and kick in it.

There are many times when they are having meat while I'm having my vegan delight and out of no where they start to telling me (not asking) "how can I ever stop eating all these meat and cheese, they are so good for your body and they taste so good." at the beginning I tried to tell them what my view is, but after a while I just gave up and smile and node at them and keep on enjoying my food.

Or every now and then they will put meat under my nose and ask me to take a bit. That is kinda mean though.

That's mainly why I thought I need to hang out with them less and hopefully find more new local friends who understands.

We'll see.

Ciao.

You can go to any usual grocery store and ask for fruit that they would dump at the end of the day. The stuff is perhaps a little brown and very ripe, but that's the great thing about it. Besides I get about 30 bananas for 1 euro, which is really cheap.

THAT IS AWESOME! I'll google translate how to ask that in German. :)

LOL Before going somewhere with a google translated question I'd recommend you write your question here and some native speaker translates it for you. Computer translations still tends to create quite funny or quirky results.

:-D

I will start with "Sprechen Sie Englisch?" If not then I will pull out the google translate cheat sheet. lol

Where do you live? I used to live near k-town (kaiserslautern) and they had fresh fruit and veggies out all the time. I loved the kiosks that sold fruit cups. Farmers markets galore. That is where you need to buy your stuff because its fresh and cheap. Even going to carnivals was fine great because they had fruit vendors.  I also got organic fruit delivered from Orkos and they were pretty awesome.

I live in Ulm. It's right next to the Donau. I used to go to the market every week (I don't want to call it farmers market, cause I realized that most of the vendors order their products from a big store. It is so stupid.) There are definitely more options of fruits and veggies in the market then stores. Now I order local organic veggie/fruit boxes every week. It is definitely not the cheapest option, but it is the "cheapest" way for local organic produce. I really need to figure out another way so I can stay on my college kid budget.

Find the closest Lidl store. They have the cheapest fruit and veg in Germany that I've found (with the exception of co-ops and small local stores of course, but knowing where you can get affordable emergency fruit is good).
Greetings from a fellow fruitie in Southern Germany! =]

HIIII! How do I find co-ops in Germany??? I've been trying to look for one around Ulm.

I was just at Lidl for a kilo of banana yesterday. My body is thanking me today. :)

Hi, last year i found a turkish supermarket in Neu-Ulm. There u can find often cheap unorganic fruits and veg.  Sometimes they sell also sell fresh dates and very large watermelons (10-13Kg). And if you like to experience a bit of little Istanbul, visit the supermarket at saturday.:-)

OMG, that sounds AMAZING!!! I can't wait to go check them out on Saturday! Thank you so much! :)
