Hi everyone! My name's Randy, i'm new here. just started on my 811rv adventure about 4 days ago. i'm currently following the 811 plan for all my calories up until dinner, and would eventually like to get my whole diet going this way. i'm really excited to get some more energy, put on muscle, and most importantly improve my candida and mood issues.
My big problem is getting enough calories. i just don't understand how y'all can eat so much! i'm 6', 160lbs, and i'm trying to put on muscle. i'd like to eat 3000+ calories, but i just can't seem to do it. the one day i did go all 811rv, i barely squeezed in 2000.
i just had two apples and now i'm full. yesterday, I tried eating 2lbs of pineapple, but after about 1.5 lbs, my tongue burned so bad from the fruit's acidity i had to stop. later, i had a smoothie with 14 bananas and 1lb of strawberries--half way through my stomach was killing me so i waited an hour and forced the other half down.
Basically, i'm barely getting 2000, let alone enough to exercise hard and grow like i want to do. i feel like i would be eating constantly all day, even if i could fit it in my stomach!
i'd love to hear any advice or experiences from anyone who'd like to share. looking forward to getting to know you all.
best, Randy
Hi Randy. Are your bananas nice and ripe with brown spots? And strawberries don't combine that well with bananas even though it tastes amazing. I blend bananas with blueberries or blackberries and many people here blend bananas with dates. And I've heard other people here complain about pineapple problems.
Dates are another good source of high calories, I order bulk from Bautista and The Date People. So bananas and dates are the staples for me. A melon or two first thing every morning. Lots of whatever else is on sale, ie. grapes right now and citrus during the winter. I don't eat any apples at all really. I also keep organic juice and frozen berries around for when fruit is low even though that isn't optimal. If I don't get enough cals my cravings are very strong.
Also, it can take a while to work up to 3000 per day - your stomach really isn't used to that many bites and will need to stretch, doesn't take that long. Keep up what your doing and hope some posts here make it a smoother transition for you.
Oh yeah, and plenty of water, I do 2 liters per day. Also takes some getting used to!

You're gonna be fine! I been on this diet since september 15 and I too had a hugh problem with getting all the calories. My goal in the beginning was to get 2000 calories. Now that´s no problem anymore so I'm heading for 2500. But - it took over a month for me to get there =) Don't be too hard on yourself you will make it sooner or later.
Blending is great, like Mary said. And dates are also easy calories. I just can't eat them as they are ( i think they are too sweet) so I always blend them.
Good luck!

you are right about that strawberry/banana combo.... doesn't seem to combine well. it's interesting that other berries work tho. apples obviously aren't working for me either.
i just bought some dates and made myself a banana date smoothie for later. i didn't realize they have so many calories, they are going to need to be a staple in my diet! not sure how the candida is going to react, but if i keep my fat down, hopefully won't be an issue.
one other thing i am concerned with is the amount of bananas i seem to be consuming. is it ok to eat double digit bananas, and every day for that matter?? i've always thought that eating a whole ton of one type of food can bring about food sensitivies.... developing a sensitivity to bananas would be a disaster on this diet!

I've been mostly raw for about 8 or 9 years now. I usually have no problem getting enough calories. I drink my large green smoothie in the a.m., more fruit and veggies at lunch and a large salad in the evening. I don't have to eat all day to get enough calories. I maintain my weight nicely.

nice to meet you and good luck.
Oh don't beat yourself up or feel guilty about slip ups from the diet. go with the flow and do the best you can. :)

Smoothies are a great help but don't kill yourself with it, I started with 5 banana smoothies and over the period of weeks added more slowly and now my regular banana smoothie is 10+ I have at least 1kg in each before I add water. You will have to get used to the higher volume but you will quite quickly :)
If you eat 2 apples and feel full, the next day eat 2 and a bit! The day after go for 2 and 2 bits! Before long you will have it down my friend! :)

so what foods besides bananas are you all loading up on for your calories? i have had 10+ bananas every day, and i think it's smart to rotate foods.... in other words, not have bananas every day. what are some other good calorie-dense sources.
