Greetings :)
I am a vegetarian and am just starting to get into raw food,I decided to just to "dive in" to this whole new way of eating(as i did with my vegetarianism).
After eating cooked food, for dinner I had half a watermelon to start prepping my system for the next day,and boy did i look pregnant(which im not). This morning I had two very juicy mangoes ,a banana and a strawberry. I have to remember to drink water as I normally just leave it till the end of the day. Then I had a handful of peanuts as a snack and now for lunch 4 bananas and strawberries. I feel so full and still have one banana and strawberry to go.
I know I should more mono meals, but seeing as this is my first day...
How am I doing so far? ADVICE more than welcome.

Melons should always be eaten ALONE. They digest very fast and will cause you problems if you eat them AFTER anything else because they will ferment in your gut while the other stuff digests.
FYI, peanuts are not raw. They are roasted at high temperature and are toxic in their raw state. Try to stay away from nuts and seeds completely for now. You can add them back in later once you've got more of a knack for the fruits and veg.
Try to keep simplifying your meals. 1-3 ingredients is ideal. The food combining video which also show you which families of fruits go together and which ones do not. Make sure the bananas you are eating are RIPE, they must be brown-spotted, not just yellow. Otherwise they will be difficult to digest and not as nutritious or sweet. I would also advise try to make smoothies out of the bananas/mangoes as that will allow you get more calories in one sitting. It may be tough to eat 5 bananas in one sitting, but it may be easier to drink 8 bananas in that same sitting.
You are off to a better start than many newbies. Keep it up.

I found the error of my ways, especially with the bananas. :)
Permalink Reply by cmiaino on May 22, 2012 at 5:01am I felt bloated after each meal for about a week, it's temporary. I also could only eat limited amount of fruits but not to worry, you will be able to increase your fruit intake overtime. From what I understand, peanuts aren't the best nuts to eat. At first I was eating raw almonds and avocados but now I hardly eat nuts and only eat avocados maybe once a week.
I hope this helps, you are doing great : )

I've never seen my belly inflate so much ,but it was fine after a while.

Permalink Reply by Peter Csere on May 22, 2012 at 5:05am Well you've had about 1,000 calories so try eating 2-3 times as much tomorrow.
A lot has to do with how ripe your fruit is. Just because your bananas are black spotty doesn't mean they are ripe. You will have to learn the "taste" of a mushy ripe banana. No starchiness or tannins at all. I have two cases I bought at the same time. One stored upstairs at 75 degrees, one stored downstairs at 60 degrees. They look exactly the same - same color, same density of black spots. One case I could sit down and eat 20 of no problem. The other case I could eat maybe 5 before I'd get a stomacheache and have to stop.

Yes I did see the error I made with the bananas, they were sweet enough for me , but they were still in their " starting to ripe" stage.
Permalink Reply by ORGANIC811LFRV on May 22, 2012 at 8:24am The bloating is being blamed on the raw food? LOL It's the peanuts hon with the raw food. I am guessing here, but were they raw? In the shell raw? That's the only real raw nut there is. And, it's questionable unless you picked them yourself off the plant. Are you eating organic or commerical? Are you tracking your intake using Cron-o-meter?
Going from vegetarianism to what you did you are going to have some issues of course. Where is the greens in your program? Those must also participate in a big way. Please read 80/10/10 and at least have some idea of what this program is about. Get rid of the nuts please. I hope they weren't salted and cooked up and packaged.
Permalink Reply by nahia2012 on May 22, 2012 at 11:30am Actually the night before ,I had half a watermelon for dinner, which was the only "raw" food consumed that day , and it was so watery and juicy i got bloated. But When i woke up , gone.
Due that its literally been my first day , i had to work with what I had ,so packaged peanuts were the way to go today . But don't worry for dinner I am planning on having salads, today it was a big green salad with tomatos and cucumbers and a lovely peach tomato dressing. Which I think I liked more as a soup than dressing. :)
Permalink Reply by Sweetfruitlover on May 22, 2012 at 9:03am Congrats on your first day, and welcome! I love eating this way and I hope you thrive and love it too.
At first it's hard to eat enough fruit to get the calories you need in, but your stomach capacity increases as you keep doing it. I usually like to base my meals on one or two fruits, and then always include greens with dinner, and sometimes include them at lunch and even breakfast as well.
Mono fruit meals work for me depending on the fruit. I find bananas too heavy and dense for mono meals, but a lighter, more water-rich fruit works well for me (e.g., grapes, oranges, nectarines, melons). I haven't had a problem combining melons with other fruit, but you'll have to see how they digest for you. I find that most fruits digest fine for me, even when I combine acidic ones with sweet ones (I like to blend up oranges and dates together, which is supposed to be bad food combining, but it works for me.)
Options for getting your greens in include green smoothies and salads. At this point I just love to munch on unadulterated leaves, but at first I preferred salads with some sort of dressing or chopped tomatoes and avocados.
I do find avocado much easier to digest than nuts and seeds, and they're usually what I have if I want some overt fat. As others have recommended, you should probably skip the peanuts. A little hemp seed or tahini blended with tomatoes or oranges makes a great salad dressing though.
Good luck!

Im going to let the bananas I have ripen more ,so maybe I wont feel so stuffed after eating them. But all in all I'm liking raw , even though its only been a day , i truly feel like I have more energy.
I will try those dressing suggestions, I made peach tomato dressing, but it tasted better as a soup .
:)
Permalink Reply by Kimberry on May 22, 2012 at 12:32pm Awesome, welcome to raw foods! :)
I second everyone else's advice, read up on food combining and mono meals. :)
Also, smoothies are your best friend when starting out. :) Very easy to eat ten bananas in a sitting if they're blended up. Also, dates are a great calorie source if you're struggling to eat enough at first, since they're small and calorie dense.
Keep it up, good luck!! :)
