30 Bananas a Day!

Issue:

I have been experiencing heavy swelling throughout my body during the day, but mostly at night.  It feels as though my legs are large water balloons, and they are hard to bend or move.  I try massaging them, dry skin brushing, rebounding etc. but they still hurt.  My hands, feet, ankles, tummy everything swells.

Have any of you experienced this?

Any suggestions or explanations of what this might be?

Background:

I have been raw for over 2 years and following 811 for the past 4 months.  I average 2000 – 3000 calories per day.  I generally eat fruit until dinner time, and then have a large salad at night.  I don’t eat overts until the weekend when I will have an avocado.  I don’t eat nuts as they don’t sit well with me.

I work an office job 9+ hours a day.  I try to get out to walk at lunch for 30mins, and I exercise about 3 times a week, mainly cardio during the winter. In the summer months I am much more active.  Each summer I do the P90x program which I love!

I am 5’6 and when I first started my raw journey I was 130 pounds.  I have gain weight since becoming raw.  I am really upset about it.  Now I am about 150 or 155.

I have not had any health issues in my life, except for being overweight.

Sorry i know that this is not really relevant, but how good is the p90x?

Have you been 100% raw?
Are you consuming ANY salt at all???

How long have you been doing Raw 100%?

If you are consuming any salt, this is the only thing I can think of...The same thing that happens to you happens to me. My legs swell up, as does the rest of my body, but my legs especially. Especially in the lower legs - the calves. My legs swell and get hard as a rock, they hurt. -If- you are eating any salt, I suggest removing it immediately! :)
P90x is a great program if you are more experienced with weight training. There are some moves that could cause shoulder and joint injuries because they are out of your natural range of motion. I would not suggest the program for a beginner.

Yes I am 100% raw.
maybe try posting on vegsource? Dr.D would probably give a better answer:)
I have been 100% raw for 2 years. I know salt bloats me. I don’t eat it or spices. I don’t’ like celery, even though it is good for you. I have always been very sensitive to foods.

I find that when I eat veggies I swell up even more than usual. I generally eat my veggies without dressing but, if I feel like dressing I blend up some bell pepper, mango, cilantro and tomatoes. Very yummy.

I could be overeating; I will keep that in mind.

Thank you for your comments!
You dont eat salt, Gia, but when was the last time you had salt? Sounds like some pretty hardcore edema to me. You aint weighing that much on just 3000cals fruit a day, your eating other stuff than you listed eh? :) Or your on some meds.

I remember not having salt for ages and then having it in Thailand 4 years ago with some raw gourmet. I got my order from the raw cafe in bangkok and borded the overnight train and was sitting up all night chatting. When I got off the train at 4am I could hardly belive my eyes! I wish I took a photo but my ankles were CANKLES! I literally had to ride hard for 30 mins to help my body push the sodium thru and then I was all good and learned a valuable lesson..

No wonder models and athletes are reknown for popping diuretics to ditch the salt fluid gains..but treating the cause rather than the symptom is a better idea eh?
DR – I wish I was being sneaky and eating something I shouldn’t. At least I would have something to blame it on. But I am not.

I am not on any medication.

I did do a lot of recreational drugs as a young girl, but that was over 9 years ago. This may be disgusting, but sometimes my armpits smell like marijuana, and/or curry! YUCK! I figure it is detox.

Is it possible, what I am still going through detox now?

Perhaps I should be more patient.
I know this isn't the topic buuuuuut.....the thing about your armpits is probably a fungus. My bf has systemic fungus and candida issues and his armpits always smelled like a great big bag o weed and we found it it was due a fungus that can live there. It makes sense, dark warm, sometimes moist area.
Oh and the edema thing, are you eating broccoli, cauliflower, or cabbage? that could be making you swell....it has made me swell in the past. Hope you figure it out...i know it sucks.
My pits also smell of marijuana, and occasionally curry when I sweat/get overheated. Sweating has become a nightmare. Sorry to hijack this post, but what did your BF do to get rid of this fungus?

A private message would be most welcome :)
Ditto what DR said. It sounds like an electrolyte problem is inducing enema. I'd go have your electrolyte levels measured. Usually things like this are definitely important warning signs that something not quite right. Good luck! :)
You might be reacting to specific fruits. Cheetah swells when she eats melon, for example. I cannot eat melons or bananas because they make me weak, tired, give me a headache, and impair brain functioning. maybe you should try monoing fruits and see if you can identify any culprits. Also, how much water are you drinking? Dehydration can cause you to retain fluid.
There are two basic types of swelling a person may experience: pitting edema and nonpitting edema. Pitting edema is a type of swelling that leaves an indentation in the skin when the swollen area is pushed on for five seconds and then quickly removed. Nonpitting edema, on the other hand, does not leave a pit.

A certain amount of slight swelling is considered normal during warmer months. This is particularly true for people who walk or stand a lot throughout the day. In addition, a pregnant woman may experience a slight amount of swelling from the stress of carrying a child. In both cases, there is generally no cause for concern.

It is also possible for swelling to be caused by severe illness, particularly when the swelling is generalized. This type of swelling is quite obvious and can easily be detected, even in individuals who are overweight. A person experiencing massive swelling should seek medical attention immediately, as it can indicate a serious progressive or chronic illness.

Found This info on www.wisegeek.com. Maybe this will help you diagnose what is happening to you.

Swelling, also referred to as anasarca or edema, is a medical condition characterized by an excessive build up of fluid within the body’s tissues. This fluid build-up can cause a person to rapidly increase his or her weight in a short period of time, ranging from days to weeks. The most commonly affected areas of the body are the skin, organs, glands, breast, ankles, legs, and feet. Swelling may be generalized throughout the body or localized to a single area.
Some illnesses that can cause swelling include heart failure, chronic kidney disease, acute glomerulonephritis, nephritic syndrome, thyroid disease, and liver failure resulting from cirrhosis. Burns, both from fire and from the sun, can also cause swelling. Malnutrition, excessive salt intake, and too little albumin in the blood are other possible causes.

Certain drugs can also cause swelling. Common drugs that can lead to swelling include antihypertensives, androgenic steroids, anabolic steroids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and calcium channel blockers. Carticosteroids can also cause swelling, as they encourage retention of sodium.
