Ok, this is bugging me big time now. I'm in Thailand and every morning, I wake up with half a dozen to a dozen mozzie bites. Some of these are over an inch in diameter, in fact I've got one on my right arm which is about 2". I love to donate blood and all that but the itching is really starting to affect my sleep.
Anyone have a really good idea of how to
a) get rid of the itching
and
b) keep the mozzies away?
Let me know - I'll owe you big time if it works.
EDIT: I found out most of my bites are bed bug bites. I've got a major infestation. Changing beds & contacted landlord to see if he can help.

I don't wear much clothes in this heat :p Just shorts most of the time. Thanks though.
Permalink Reply by Peter Csere on March 8, 2012 at 3:41am I have been told that eating a lemon or a lime will cause your skin to give off an odor that is not pleasant to mosquitoes.
Also, build a bat house. Bats eat thousands of mosquitos each hour.
Permalink Reply by Jack on March 8, 2012 at 12:11pm Maybe I'll just become immune somehow if they keep munching away at me? Like I've said, I don't mind them biting, I just don't want to lose sleep over the itching. Maybe it won't itch as much after a month or so of bites? Anyone know if this could happen? It never happened with the northern European mosquitoes I grew up with, but maybe this time...?
Jack, I never used honey in my 'mosquito magic' salve - somtimes my brain shows the deficit of brain cells I worked on most of my life....I used beeswax in my salve, but, as I said I'm testing out vegan alternatives.
Permalink Reply by Mera/Feather Story on March 8, 2012 at 8:23pm Yikes...sorry about the bites Jack...it's been awhile since I've been bitten by mosquito's but I grew up very close to swamps and what I noticed was people with low blood circulation, were cold-natured and more sedentary had more problems with mosquito's...stress also really seemed to be a factor.
Breathing, pranayama, increasing circulation seems to really help. I think I remember using witch hazel successfully for the itchies, but like I said it's been awhile.
Permalink Reply by Jack on March 8, 2012 at 8:26pm Not sure about blood circulation but cold-natured and more sedentary sounds like me, and as you know my stress levels went through the roof years ago, probably close to Mars orbit by now. Working on all of it...

My neighbours probably think I'm running a lemon farm in this apartment by now :-D

Permalink Reply by Jack on March 9, 2012 at 4:35pm OK, so I found out most of my bites are bed bug bites. I have a major bed bug infestation - there are dozens of them under my matress, not even hiding properly, so probably tons more in less obvious spots. I'm changing beds for now and contacted my landlord to see if he can help - it seems you need professional help to exterminate them well & proper. Got a few bites at my a$$ last night - and not only...

Permalink Reply by Jack on March 9, 2012 at 4:58pm Yeah, I know. Thing is, I do my renting on a monthly basis, two weeks left. I know it is possible to exterminate bed bugs completely, but professional help is most likely called for. He can't keep renting this apartment if its full of bed bugs so he's got to act. I do have three beds to choose between, one of them on the balcony, and thus far I've only found signs of the buggers in the main bed. They do have a number of apts in this complex but the bugs will probably follow if I change apartment. He'd be stupid not to eradicate them.
