30 Bananas a Day!

My mom and sister are long time vegans as am I, basically since I was born. I've been doing HCLF vegan for 7 months on and off raw, mostly mixing it up with rice and beans and spaggetti. I've always been one to smash in the calories during swim and waterpolo season the last four years, but before it was mostly in the form of peanut butter banana burritos, which I would down 3-4000+ calories a day with. I was kind of on a moderately high fat vegan diet before, and I've always had a little gut, but I dont think anyone would have considered me overweight. I'm 18 and was a 5'8'' guy at roughly 140-150 pounds depending on the time of day.

Since beginning this diet, my first problem was undereating on the calories same as everyone because I just wasnt used to the volume. I didnt gain or lose any weight in the first few months. In the last couple months however, I've been smashing the calories in with that more is good mentality. My caloric intake is now usually around 4-5500 calories a day usually consisting of 2000 calories from bananas and dates until dinner when I down 2-3000 calories of rice and beans, and/or spaggetti. I just love to eat MASSIVE amounts of food, but I didn't go very hard on the cooked food in the beginning. Since then my weight has increased to around 155-165 pounds depending on the time of day, but I'm still quite active.

I'm always joking that I have a sixpack abs when I clearly don't. Since gaining that 10 pounds however, I'm further away from my sixpack dream than I ever have been and I'm a bit worried. My mom says my stomach has kankles and my sister says I look pregnant. While they are both grossly exaggerating, I'm not happy with the way my stomach looks.

I still believe this diet is thebomb.com because I constantly feel so great, but if I want to see that sixpack abs, do you guys think I should lower my caloric intake, exclude the cooked food, or just accept my weight and sharpie a sixpack on my stomach fat? I could easily lower my calories to 3000ish a day, but I love eating too much!

putting in the work/play?

For your weight and exercise level you're overeating. Cut out the peanut butter banana burritos, rice, beans, spaghetti and dates completely. They are all rather condensed and dense in calories. Go for whole fruits and vegetables that fill you up without the extreme calories,

Aww lol, thats what I was afraid you'd say.

Why are you laughing at Carrie?  I thought that was true as well?  I would say, Jack, that you should cut out the peanut butter for sure.  Cooked foods will probably add to your bloat, so cut them out.  But I disagree with Reed.  I would say have the same calories.  Ultimately, when you cut out these foods, you are going to have to eat 811 (fruit), rather than the fat of peanut butter and cooked foods.  That is why I am confused about Ana laughing??

Yes. Yes. I'm laughing WITH Carrie. It's in reference to a discussion about whether one could gain fat when eating carbs. Btw, I deleted the LOL, cuz I don't want to upset or offend anyone. peace.....ana xoxo

Oh, okay.  GOOD!  I feel relieved for myself.

His mom and sister are being proactive. His calories are on the higher side because he raised his insulin levels with high glycemic energy dense cooked foods. Now he's craving food. He even thinks he's overeating. 4-5.5K calories per day is on the high end for 150 pounds when you add high glycemic pasty, rice and fatty peanut butter. Without massive amount of cardio those starches and fats will add to your fat levels. It's so much easier as he only needs to shed about 10 pounds.  He drifted off of 80/10/10.

When he was eating  3-4000 calories a day eating fruits and vegetables he held his weight. The other thing is his age. He hit 18 so he might have stopped the crazy growth peak and calorie needs. Most people that reach that need a slightly less calories from then on.

I might burn 5-6K a day but I have 80-100 more pounds more muscle and did 2100+ calories of cardio today. 26+ miles of hill climbs and the day is not over.

+1

....And remember, when people criticize you, it says more about THEM than it says about you! Keep your head up!  ....ana xoxo

Haha thanks for the response! Thats exactly how I feel too. Guess I'll figure it out in my own time.

Stay High Carb, low fat and you'll lean out. Eat loads of fruit! You could try cutting out overt fats for a bit, I find my metabolism goes faster when i'm overt free :)

Take out any salt or oil, especially in cooked food. I had the same problem and lost all of the extra weight after I took out these things.

I think it would be great for someone to do a video about how eating loads of fruit plus cooked (even with a little bit of oil and salt) can make you gain a whole lot of weight fast!

I have been overt free for a few months, but I think I've compensated with salt a little too much. Thanks for the advice.
