Hi guys, just want to give a shout-out to Michael Arnstein, i.e. The Frutarian. On Monday he'll begin the Badwater Ultramarathon, a 135-mile race from Death Valley to Mt. Whitney, CA. Mike is the one who inspired me to begin ultra-running, and has inspired many others as well. If you are able to in some way, give him some support!

Permalink Reply by Jared Six on July 18, 2012 at 7:00am I am curious to know just how easy (or difficult) it is to fall asleep after running a race that is 100 miles or longer.
I mean, I would imagine that after a race like that you would be so physically exhausted that you could easily fall asleep and sleep for the next day or two, but I also imagine that after doing something like that you would wake up in the middle of the night feeling an intense need to eat something and if it's in that kind of hot weather I would also imagine that you would constantly be waking up to drink something as well. I hope that you have peace and quiet after this one ;)
Permalink Reply by The Dutchman on July 18, 2012 at 7:07am I think I still would be running in my bed.
Amazing what these people are doing temperatures up to 130F (55c).
Permalink Reply by Reed on July 18, 2012 at 10:51am He should finish soon with less then 4 miles to go. I think this is his first time doing this 135 mile race. Its pretty insane to run 5 plus mountainous marathons at once in the worst heat and conditions. This is considered the world's toughest foot race.

Good job Mike!

Kudos, Mike!
Awesome accomplishment.

Yeah, it looks more like he just had a massage in that picture than it does like he just finished running 135 miles. Crazy!
Like I said I hope that this was filmed or that he will at least post a detailed blog about it. I'm wondering how much water he consumed during this race and what else he did to avoid becoming "toast" out there.
