So I am high carb vegan 80% raw. My diet is almost completely sodium free i have no more than 10% of my calories coming from fat (usually less) I drink a LOT of water. minimum 3 litres a day. and I have serious melon belly all the time. My BM are frequent and regular (about 3 a day) but my belly has actually gained about 2 inches in the past 2 weeks. I have only been on this for 2 weeks though, but I have been vegan for over a year (vegetarian for 5 years before that) and I never really ate that much fat in my diet. I eat about 3000 calories a day, sometimes more if I feel like it, rarely I will eat any less than that. Is this a part of the cleansing process. Should I give it another couple weeks for the bloating to go down? Anything else I can do to aid the process?

If you are 80% raw, why not take it to 100%?
Fruits do not mix well with other foods. I am not sure what the other 80% of your diet is, but if it is grain based and or cooked foods, you may continue to have melon belly and or bloating.
Doing this diet, many people go to bed looking like Buddha, but should wake up looking like ghandi. If they wake up looking like Buddha, then they have been a bad Buddha as Durianrider likes to say.
Please read our Banana Wagon Tour (again) to see what works optimally.
What we say about transitioning and mixing:
The case against transitioning:
If one is doing two or more diets, one is only doing a mix and will not have optimal results. The same conditions, diseases, and cravings will keep coming up again and again and never get resolved.
One cannot ride two horses with one bum:)
Mixing a high fat diet and a high fruit diet can cause problems like Type 2 Diabetes, candida, and chronic fatigue syndrome, and weight gain.
Fruits digest fast. Animal products, fats, digest slowly as well as cruciferous veggies like broccoli and root veggies like carrots in some people.
Eating fruit on top of slow digesting food can cause the fruit to ferment leading to digestive discomfort and or pain, gas, bloating, and other problems like brain fog.
CHEAT DAYS = SICK DAYS!
Cheating with cooked food, and even steamed vegetables for some people, can cause digestive upsets, detox symptoms, and a return of previous conditions.
Of course everyone is different, but what many members who have tried to transition have experienced is that the longer they eat raw, the cleaner their bodies get.
What will happen is that their bodies will react violently when they cheat with cooked food. Symptoms may include upset stomach, vomiting, constipation, headache, acne, and other detox symptoms. The best way to describe it is sudden onset of flu like symptoms which may last 1-3 days.
Peace, PK
Permalink Reply by Hailee Young on May 5, 2012 at 8:14am Thanks! this was really helpful. The only 20% that isn't raw is rice and potatoes with the occasional chickpeas. The only reason I don't go full raw is because im only 15 and sometimes rice and potatoes are all I got. And my mom doesn't agree with this lifestyle so it makes her more comfy and gets her off my back if I eat some rice or potatoes. I can try my best to go 100% but sometimes it's easier to eat a baked potato instead of my mom yelling at me and telling me that this isn't healthy. I have showed her facts, success stories, videos but she is a David Wolfe follower and she believes everything in moderation with 'healthy fats'.
Permalink Reply by Greenmama on May 5, 2012 at 9:59am Sounds like you'd just love some freedom to choose what you eat, some acceptance and support, and an abundance of sweet, juicy fruit available whenever you want it? Big hugs!
Potatoes are definitely going to be easier on the digestion that rice and chickpeas, in my experience.

Permalink Reply by Jon Fergus on May 5, 2012 at 4:32am PK's got it right on, as usual, but I'll just add one thing, which is a very common cause of bloating. Unripe fruit. Make sure your fruit is ripe, combine them properly, and try not to mix them with cooked.
Permalink Reply by Esra on May 5, 2012 at 4:59am That's a good point Jon. Another thing that causes bloating is over-ripe fruit! I learned that the hard way when my bananas got over-ripe a few months ago and I decided to eat them anyway for a couple of days :).
Permalink Reply by Hailee Young on May 5, 2012 at 8:15am ok thank you!
Permalink Reply by Greenmama on May 5, 2012 at 4:47am I deal with this, too. When I go 100% with no cooked starches for 2 days, I notice a huge difference by morning 3. I also notice an improvement with tubers like potatoes over rice and other grains.
Permalink Reply by Hailee Young on May 5, 2012 at 8:17am yeah that only unraw things I have are rice and potatoes but I know its ideal to only have fruit. I'm going to try my best to eat only fruit

Permalink Reply by melonhead on May 5, 2012 at 5:39am I was going to say the same thing- it's not the 80/10/10. it's the 80% raw! I was 100%m raw for three years before finding HCRV- it is quite an adjustment, an enjoyable one, but still an adjustment to go from raw to HCRV. I imagine going from anything not all raw to this lifestyle would be kind of a challenge. What Ian trying to say is that if you have come this far, not just all raw, but you are into HCRV, why not go all the way? Reap all the benefits since you are already doing a bunch of the work. I have a melon belly but that's because I eat too much fat. I'm working on it. But to not be high on fat, to be into this lifestyle and not be reaping aaaalllll the benefits for 20% cooked food? Make the break! Watch your belly go way down and your energy go way up! Just my two cents worth, good luck to you!
