30 Bananas a Day!

Lowering your Body Fat Percentage on 811: How long does it take?

I've been on an 80% raw food diet since july 2011.  When I don't eat raw, I sometimes have beans or steamed veggies depending.

To be perfectly honest, I have not been seeing myself get very toned.  I've been running 6 days a week since October 2011 and I've only upped my game to 3 miles a day in January and added some weights for my arms as well.

I'm trying to burn fat, not muscle.  I've got a bunch of butt and thigh cellulite as well as love handles and a bit of a belly even though I'm kind of thin.  My weight is currently 127lbs. (It actually went up from 118 before I was mostly raw).  I'm 5'9".  My waist is 24 inches (down from 24.5. Woo!) and my hips are 36.5 inches.  According to a body fat rough estimator online, in which you measure your wrist and forearm circumference too, I have 25.34% body fat.  That's in the "acceptable" range and not in the "athletic" or even "fit" range that I've been vying for.

I come from a history of having had anorexia and bulimia for 4 years.  I gradually ended my eating disorder and by  March of 2011 it was gone completely!  In July, I went raw.

I jogged about 6 miles today because I thought maybe I should up my game again this month.  I'm getting frustrated man!  I wanna do this the right way but it's going so slowly.

So I basically need some encouragement and motivation!  How long does it take before you see results?  I'm thin but I want to have an athletic body with a flat stomach like Freelee or Kristina Carrillo-Bucaram.  I notice so many people on 30bad who look so athletic, healthy, and toned with a low body fat.  How long will it take before I see this results?

these are interesting questions ! I'm quite the newbie myself, so i have to answers, but I'm definitely curious as to hear from other experienced fruities !

Are you serious Mette?

At 5'9 and 127lbs, it sounds like you need to build muscle not lose any weight. Kind of thin sounds like a bit of an exaggeration. That's very thin. I'm 5'8 and 130lbs and I'm the smallest I've ever been.

Keeping the fat low is really the key to becoming leaner.

With your eating disordered history you can't expect your body to act quickly. After 4 years of anorexia it takes time for your body to trust you again.

Can you share a picture with us?

Hey,

I used to obsessively measure my waist and height and every inflection made me really unhappy. 24" on 5' 9" seems really thin. Here's a waist to height calculator that will show you that you are already in the lowest range, its probably more accurate than measuring your wrists: http://www.shapefit.com/calculators/waist-to-height-ratio-calculato...

If you feel healthy and and are already slender is there a particular reason you want to be skinnier? It seems you're already at a model body type.

@Camille ... cool chart! Thanks !

1 year/8month 811rv anniversary! It saved my life!

Ive got anorexia and want to get healthy. How do I embrace this lif...

After coming from 4 years of anorexia you should expect to gain weight in the beginning, this would be a sign of health, your weight will balance out in time.  With your background I would suggest not using weight as an indicator at all, just focus on energy levels and other health conditions.  Read the threads above to find info. and a lfrv support group for those coming from a background of disordered eating.

Tarah, I am new to this way of eating raw, you are the size I want to be. I am also 5'8". Can I ask how long you have been doing this way of eating and if you lost weight, also what is a typical day eating for you? Thanks for your help!!!

Strength training a couple sessions a week instead of all the running really works. I have seen amazing results from crossfit classes 2-3 times a week. Also, I notice a great reduction in cellulite when I stay low fat (90/5/5), drink tons of water, and do no sodium. Quitting drinking alcohol helped a ton as well. I wish you the best girlie!

I would agree with this.  I was a trainer for 4 years.  Add some weight training 3 times a week.  Keep it short and brief as little as 20 min but put a lot of effort into it. I would see it all the time that skinny people can have a high percentage of body fat if they are low on lean muscle.  Most of all give yourself time, months, 3 - 6 months before you start expecting anything and then you just might surprise yourself.  The diet is the most important part in getting to your ideal weight and healing your body.  Weight training or some other type of resistance training is a great way to have a fit/rocking body. As stated above, drink a lot of water. Peace.

I was wondering something similar. If you want to gain more muscle, should you not do a lot of cardio? I've heard this a few times and would like some input...

Look up videos of Freelee. She comes from the same background of an eating disorder and first said she gained weight in the first three months of 811 because her body didn't trust that there would be sufficient amounts of food and calories. Afterwards though the rest is history, her body came back down and now she is sooo slim and fit! be patient! =) It could take up to two years for you body to completely heal itself and regenerate all of its tissues and cells.
