I wake up, drink a liter to two liters of water, and sometimes feel pretty lightheaded. I've been eating around 3-4000 cals each day, usually a nice salad for dinner.
I'm just curious if this is a sign of dehydration or hunger. Any thoughts?

Permalink Reply by LLLLL L on May 19, 2011 at 5:26am How much do you drink before you go to bed? Like DR says, you should get up to go to the bathroom a few times a night. It might just be that you're going 12hrs of sleep dehydrated..
Permalink Reply by Moiraine Damodred on May 19, 2011 at 5:30am For the love of God, DO NOT drink 1-2 liters of water QUICKLY in the morning when you wake up. That will make you feel worse than lightheaded over time, believe me.
In fact, the body can ONLY process 1 L of water at a time (1 L in 1 hour), and I am speaking of a typical body here, which may not be your case, if you are a tiny female!
If you think it may be dehydration, check your urine every time you use the bathroom...is it clear-ish to very light yellow? Then you're fine.
How much sodium are you getting daily? Aim for 500 mg from greens or fruits, only. Hyponatremia is not a joke...sodium levels are important, and deficiency is as bad as toxicity.

I agree that it is possible to over drink the water and this can cause imbalances in the body. Try to keep it at one liter or less and see how you feel (unless you are vigorously exercising).
I personally can only drink about 2-3 cups of water when rising in the morning. Then I wait about 30 minutes before taking breakfast.
Peace, PK
Permalink Reply by goddesstwin1 on May 19, 2011 at 7:45am Ya 'm probably drinking the water too fast. I pee throughout the night because I hydrate well in the day which is why I'm confused. I'm starting to think my meals at night are not calorie dense enough and I'm hungry when I wake up. I eat handfuls of tomatoes each day so I get plenty of sodium, maybe I could eat more celery too. Thank you all for your help! I just want to wake up with energy to exercise, not be floating around my living room all morning!! LOL!!
Permalink Reply by Moiraine Damodred on May 19, 2011 at 7:53am It's a common mistake to think tomatoes have much sodium--they really don't. Eat the celery and other greens, really. :) If you're drinking so much you're peeing throughout the night, you need to get that sodium/potassium ratio balanced out a bit, at least. :)
To avoid making nutritional errors, get CRON-o-Meter, and track what you're getting every day. :) Do you do this?

Permalink Reply by Mini Rawvegan on May 19, 2011 at 9:15am Tomatoes do not seem to be high in sodium unless you cook them (according to cronometer).
Celery is best and honeydew and cantaloupe help.

Permalink Reply by Moiraine Damodred on May 19, 2011 at 7:52am There are some people who experience this same feeling on here. They don't eat bananas and relate the chest burning feeling to being allergic to bananas. Try some greens or drink it slower. If it still happens sadly try to avoid them and see if it goes away.
Also, are the bananas organic? A friend of mine never ate bananas growing up because they would cause him issues when he was younger. He ate a organic one and had no problems! Then tried a conventional and it caused him to break out in a allergic reaction.... Just because we peel the skin off, chemicals still leech into the fruit through the absorption of water.
