Some people say that lentils and grains are mentioned through out the Bible as a staple. I do understand that grains are bird foods and lentils cause gas and indigestion... But how is that they are mentioned in the Bible... any thoughts?

If not, it doesn't matter any more than the fact that rice is a staple in China. Different culture, different historical era, different everything.
They also sacrificed goats. When did you last sacrifice a goat?
:-)

I see... And I have been thinking: Eden from the Bible is actually tropics where we enjoyed all the fruits we cared for. When we left ( for the apple reason or whatever ) we were cursed to scavenge for foods.
Permalink Reply by vegan witch Ⓥ on February 28, 2012 at 11:57pm Eden was in the middle east - not the tropics!! Remember this - back then God provided manna and quail to them, and Jesus ate meat as well. Even MORE important to remember - back then there were laws about how to treat animals - humanely.
REALLY ?????
(Deuteronomy 12:15) Notwithstanding you may kill and eat flesh in all your gates, whatever your soul lusts after, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which he has given you: the unclean and the clean may eat thereof, as of the roebuck, and as of the hart. and
(Deuteronomy 12:23) But be sure you do not eat the blood, because the blood is the life, and you must not eat the life with the meat - this means you have to kill the animal by bleeding it to death - this is a extremely slow and painful death.
there is no such thing as humane animal deaths

Ahh, the subtle hints of a contradiction;)
Peace, PK
BTW, agree with your post.
Permalink Reply by Myca on March 11, 2012 at 6:49am No no no. It is not extremely slow. Painful maybe but not slow. You can´t take a verse out of context. There were laws that applied to the treatment of animals. They could not muzzle a bull while it was threshing. The permission to eat meat came to Noah after the flood. We have people from the middle east around here who still buy sheep and goats to sacrifice.
Interesting thought that Isaiah talks about a time when the earth will return to peace with the animals. Apparently, it was not intended to be this way.
Permalink Reply by WendyE on March 11, 2012 at 12:21pm Actually, the kosher method of slaughter means the animal loses consciousness within one minute, and feels very little.
Modern slaughterhouses drag cows upside down by one leg, start the slaughter before the animal is even unconscious - much less dead.
If I ever ate meat again, it would be kosher only, absolutely.
The laws regarding this were in place because meat was necessary out of scarcity. We don't have this problem. Also, the guy who was put in the lion's den? Before that he was put to a test where he was unable to eat meat because none of it was kosher. Within a short amount of time, he & all his friends (completely vegetarian) were far healthier than the warriors who ate meat & grains. In Genesis there's some hint that we were intended to be vegetarian.
Doing something the best way you can when it is absolutely necessary is different from having license to go crazy with it.
Permalink Reply by Marina on February 29, 2012 at 12:14am I am strongly convinced that back then people were vegans! I talked about this with a friend who studied the Bible and according to the old testimony all creatures ate only plants. After the big flood God allowed humans to sacrifice some animals to survive, but only until the vegetation recovers. At that time many animals were sick because there was no vegetation and big cats "were assigned" to clean the Planet from sick animals.
However, it also reads that once when we make this Planet a paradise again, we will all be plant eaters again.
The longest living dog in the UK was a plant eater and there is lioness that refused to eat meat:
Permalink Reply by Myca on March 11, 2012 at 7:08am Read Genesis the first three chapters and concentrate on Genesis Chapter 1:24-28. Then read 29-30. Chapter 2:8 describes God making the garden. Chapter 6 talks about Noah and why the flood was going to come. Genesis 9:2 describes the terror that was to continue upon the animals because they had been given into the hand of man. When I think about that, I think that peace between man and animal ended that day. You are right. The Bible does promise a paradise, but we will not be making it. God says he will be making it. Isaiah talks about the a time when the lion will eat straw just like a bull.
