I've had issues all my life with knee pain, which only in recent years I discovered was due to pronation. About 4 years ago I started running and read chirunning and I've been practising it ever since (while running and walking). But since having my son and carrying him a lot when he was little, walking with a buggy etc, I've been having knee trouble again (perhaps due to not paying attention to my form), which has stopped me running several times over the last couple of years. I got orthotics, which helped for a while, but now I'm back to knee pain every time I run. This is a serious issue for me as I don't sleep properly if I don't run and only being 35, I want to be able to run for quite a few more years yet! I have a few questions:
Could it be simply that I need to change my orthotics? How often do you really need to get orthotics updated?
My physio says I have muscle wastage from years of pronation, he's given me exercises to do but he says that it will take months to rebuild the muscles - does this sound realistic?
I don't think my physio is an expert on running, so I'm thinking I probably need to shop around - what type of practitioner should I be looking for? Should I simply be looking for a physio who has a lot of experience with runners?
thanks, Lia

Permalink Reply by Brittany Johnson on February 25, 2012 at 7:30pm have you had any pain in your arches? it happens to me randomly either when I'm walking up stairs or when i jog. and its always when i step down on the for and its not always the same one. but it feels like a thin knife is going through the center of my arch every but it does wear off eventually as long as i put the least bit of pressure on the foot as possible and sometimes when i keep my foot flat to step up on the stairs it doesn't hurt till i pick up my foot. its a little confusing and i hope you could give me some pointers because i really want to start running and i plan to try tomorrow when i wake up.
