30 Bananas a Day!

The last time I had overt fat (durian) was on Thanksgiving Day 2008. Since then I have been 100% overt fat free (and 100% 811rv). Over the past year, I have not experienced dry skin, or any of the other symptoms typically associated with low fat consumption. I attribute this to the fact that I have been careful over the past year to make sure that I am consuming adequate amounts of the essential fatty acids, omega-3 and omega-6; my primary sources have been lettuce and melons.

Previously, I felt that I had an addiction to overts, but that they were causing me trouble. I tend to be the sort of person who eats compusively. Rather than limit my fat consumption, I have found it easier to eliminate overt fat completely, rather like the alcoholic. I think that my athletic performance and health has improved because of it.

That's great to hear!

Some of us, or at least I sometimes get nervous if I go more than a week without overt fats because I start thinking for some reason that I need them and will run into big problems if I don't eat them on a somewhat regular basis, but hearing that you have gone a solid year without them will help me not to worry so much about this issue in the future.

This last year has been a durian feast for me-at least two per week, which still balances out to about 10% overall cos I haven't touched nuts or other overts. Nonetheless, I'm going to cut out all overts for the next 4 months cos I really feel I need to.

I'm also finding that the overt fats are causing me problems. I'm not the type of person who can do ANYTHING in moderation.

With that in mind I'm thinking of taking some time off from eating overts.

Thanks for sharing your experiences MedjoolFan!

All the best,

Karmyn

"I'm not the type of person who can do ANYTHING in moderation." I second that. I find it easier to eliminate them altogether.

What kind of symptoms do you have if you eat too much overt fat (or if you think you just can't handle it well)? Other than being sluggish the next day and slower elimination...

TIA

Those are symptoms enough-definitely sluggish and slower elimination. I feel foggy. My periods are heavier, nothing excruciating like before but nonetheless heavier. I have less energy and feel less motivated to exercise.

If I eat too many overts I start gaining weight. I also have the typical problems like low energy, digestive issues, etc. I'm not worried about the weight gain as I plan on consuming no overts for the month of December. That'll get me back on track!

Same here. I gain weight if I eat too much fat. :)

Wow, thats wonderful to hear. I can relax now. I have had no overts for about 8 months. During this time I have tried just a few times to reintroduce them with no success. Candida issues. How much lettuce and melons do you eat in one day?
Thanks, I really needed to know that it is possible to be healthy with no overts.

You just want to make sure that you get 2-3g omega-3 and 3-5g omega-6 daily to be safe.

You can track your consumption on Cron-o-meter. I think all greens are good sources of these essential fatty acids (EFAs). Melons are also good, as are kiwi, and many other fruits in which one eats the seeds. Recently I've been enjoying pomegrantes here in season in southern California. Although the EFA analysis hasn't been done on pomegranate that I know of, I am guessing that these are also a good source of EFAs, since the seeds are consumed.

I just got off the avocado train, don't think I'll be getting back on for a while. They just kinda snuck in there when I wasn't paying too much attention and I had the whole set of consequences- low energy, slow elimination and weight gain. Bad times.

Now I'm smashing bananas, papaya, dates and all the good stuff. And BIG salads with NO avo.

I would say yes, that's true - be sure to get enough carbs from fruit. I also found it easier to eliminate overts by eating more greens. I think I may have been craving a nutrient in fat which is also present (in a smaller concentration) in greens.
