30 Bananas a Day!

I have heard of making raw applesauce (in the blender) but my friend just gave me an entire huge tub of apples and I was wondering if I would be able to make lots of raw applesauce but then can it? I'm not sure if you would have to heat the jars to make them seal? If so, I guess it wouldn't be raw anymore. But are there any other tricks to do it or any other way to preserve the apples?

Thanks!!

to can things you heat them quit a bit and to not heat them they would quickly go bad and ferment. so no, sorry. :( I've thought the same and tried it with juices intentionally and accidentally. :)

Sorry, no way to preserve raw foods. The only option with applesauce is to pasteurize them. Even if you sliced and dehydrated the apples, they would still lose nutrient content, most notable B12 would be converted to analogue forms of B12 which "clog" up your receptors (a great way to ensure a B12 deficiency is to eat lots of preserved, dried, not fresh foods.)

The only way to preserve foods in a jar is to pasteurize them (heating in a pressure cooker or double boiler till the top pops.)

Wow, thank you for that information! I had no idea about the B12 deficiency thing with lots of unfresh foods! (Still in the process of reading the 80/10/10). I had a sad feeling that there wouldn't be a way to preserve all this beautiful fruit, so I will just enjoy it as fast as I can! ha ha

I would just do 2-3 days of apple island with raw applesauce, delicious!  I might add a few dates here and there too! Yum! :D  Lucky you! :)

Oh what is the apple island?! Haven't found that recipe yet!

It is pretty fantastic that I have been scoring all this free, fresh, organic fruit from friends and family. I am new to this lifestyle so I just have to re-route my mind on some things. So I guess it is a week of fresh apples and raw applesauce for me! ha ha.

apple island simply means eating nothing but apples for a few days, that's all.

I freeze the extra.  I don't eat it myself but my kids love it.  I keep the peels on and throw in blueberries so it's a lovely fuscia color.  I know it's not optimal to freeze but we just came home with 40 pounds of apples and I'm not a big apple eater.

You can put lemon juice on them to keep them from browning, but I'm not sure if that actually 'preserves' them...
