30 Bananas a Day!

If 811rv is so natural then why are so many using drugs with the diet?

Good old DR admits and seems to be proud of using vitamin B12 shots.

Robby Barbaro uses B12 tablets.

Michael Arnstein uses salt pills when he runs.

These people are highly respected members of this community and of the 811rv community and all 3 are using totally non-natural (my words) drugs. When was the last time you saw B12 tablets growing on a tree or plant? Using injections is way more distant from nature. How can nature recreate an injection of any sort? and salt pills? What's up with that?

Dr. D himself (from what he says) doesn't use any of these and seems to be very successful for over 30 years. What are you guys doing that makes these necessary? Or are they?

Cheers again Chuckster! :D
If you don't like it, don't imitate it. DR and the others never came to you and told you to worship and imitate them, so why should their personal choices affect you so much? And at least they are open about it, alot of the ‘Gurus’ out there will do much worse things but never admit to it, giving a false sense of health on their diets.
We've depleted the soil of nutrients and damaged our intrinsic factors with years of unhealthy eating, that's why B-12 supplementation may be necessary.
I wouldn't call B12 or Salt drugs. (Or well, this is the first time that I can remember ever hearing anyone actually call them that before.)

If I'm not mistaken Durianrider takes B12, but Michale Arnstein doesn't, and Michale Arnstein takes salt pills, but Durianrider doesn't. You would think that if one of them needs one of these things the other would too, but they have both come to the firm belief after years of exerimentation and pushing their bodies to the limit that they personally need these things, and unless we are pushing our bodie's as much as they are by running 100 mile races and riding 24 hour bike races it's not really our place to say that we can do these kinds of things without them.

I haven't taken any supplements for about a year, but if I was going to run a ridiculously long race in the hot summer sun I wouldn't be against the idea of having some salt pills on me just incase, nor would I be against the idea of taking B12 if found out that I was very low in it and I needed something extra to correct the problem.

Durianrider and Michale aren't selling B12 and salt pills, they are simply being completely honest with us.
In other words, if the fact that Durianrider takes B12 and Michael Arnstein takes salt pills means that this diet is deficient, doesn't the fact that Michale Arnstein doesn't take B12 and Durianrider doesn't take salt pills mean the opposite?
Quite a good point, actually!
Logically, no, it's a false logic.
salt pills? like dried celery pills or something?inorganic salt is definitely toxic for anyone that doesn't live under the ocean where it is also very dilute
Hi Dante, Sultana here, answering your question to Ian. I hope you don't mind.

Here are Dr. Graham's views on b12 Supplements:

"We go down the same road.
New day, same old questions.

If you suspect b12 deficiency, take some b12. If you feel better within
a few days of supplementing, you needed it. If not, you didn't. Is that
not simple enough?

As for production of intrinsic factor, or anything else that has to do
with your health, I can honestly say that I know of NOTHING that
solely and only completely hinges upon the food you eat. You can
impair your intrinsic factor production simply through experiencing
stress. For sure, some raw fooders feel the social stress of being raw,
much more than other people do.

I hope this is sufficiently clear.
"

DR has often given his own reasons for taking b12, though I've never yet seen him attribute it to the "social stress of being raw", lol

In any case, there are so many reasons for deficiencies, and has been pointed out, most people who are deficient in b12 are SAD eaters, but long and short: Doug has no problem with anyone who might want to supplement b12.
Best,
Sultana
mike runs extreme distances and his salt pills are the solution he's come up with for preventing hyponatremia. I think there may be a better solution using some form of organic sodium but at least he's found something that works. if he wasn't doing something about it he wouldn't be able to run that far without serious problems.

I take B12 sublinguals, not every day but as needed. I needed to take them years before I was 811/vego. some people have absorption issues, this doesn't mean that everyone doing 811 should take B12 sups, you have to look at each individual based on their health history. making/speculating categorical claims on the subject (all vegos should take B12/if you're lfrv you never need to take B12) aren't all that helpful since there are so many reasons why someone may have issues with B12 deficiency.. some of which are treatable through interventions like fasting and others where supplementation would be the only option to avoid the serious health complications resulting from long term B12 deficiency.
Just to stir things up a little.....Lithium Carbonate is a salt pill that I very much think of as a drug.

I used to need it to manage Bipolar symptoms, but since the inside of my body now looks like a beautiful garden and not the aftermath of a house party, half of my old dose would screw me up now.

It used to keep me from having suicidal thoughts and manic tendencies (slows chronic racing thoughts), but now with this fruity body it depresses my confidence and creates fatigue. Now, fruit is the only anti-depressant/mood stabilizer I will ever need. If only those overeducated-$125/20minute-Psychaiatrists would be willing to believe the aforemetioned, more people could be helped!
I think its great you've had such an amazing change on fruit and its a very interesting case to here. Psychotherapy is a little more complex than that, but you do raise an interesting point. Niacin can do some amazing things alone for depression and anxiety, so it makes sense that a fruit based diet would be excellent for people who suffer from these conditions.
Technically you could class all food as drugs...
