30 Bananas a Day!

7am-3pm are the hours I'm the most hungry, but I can never bring enough food without feeling awkward as hell. I really just don't feel comfortable carrying around a huge bag of bananas with me around campus :P I've been bringing obscene amounts of dates, but I'm sick of them, and they aren't my favorite plain anyways. Any ideas for things I can bring along with me?

Make a massive smoothie in the morning full of fruit and don't water it down too much so you get max calories. If you buy a stainless steal drink bottle then you can even make green smoothies and people will never know! Also a flask is a good idea, like the ones you usually you hot drinks in.

This is what I have done in the past but I live on campus now so it's not too hard to get back to my hostel :)

Do you think a flask would keep it cold? Thanks! My smoothies tend to look pretty funny to other people so the stainless steal thing is a good idea :D

Depends on how daring you are.  If you feel good about what you're eating, people may ask in curiosity, but not necessarily distaste.  It's up to you :)

Bringing smoothies with you to high school, where conditions are unpredictable, the hours between breaks are long, and there are no refrigerators, really??? I don't know how any other students manage to do that but seriously, that seems completely unsustainable to me... And what about oxidisation of the fruit? It would only stay cold for an hour at the most, the texture would be sloppy and it would be room temperature by lunch time. I would recommend smoothies in the morning and whatever you eat at night, and bring bananas or another of your fruits/favourite 811 recipes that do not digest SUPER fast and is gentle on your system (dates do the opposite of this, in my experience), you enjoy, fills you up, keeps you satisfied and can cope with varying temperatures. Experiment. Good luck :)

"Protein drink" - good idea!

For some reason I just never thought of bringing smoothies with me for the whole day! Thank you so much! This is definitely doable for me :)

Instead of just plain dates, make a snack with them.  Make some coconut date bites!  They are delicious, and you can make them different flavors.  Those are great snacks.  And the smoothie idea is a great one.

Every time I make date snacks I end up eating too much fat :( Especially if I'm eating them for meals. But I've only made ones with lots of nuts or coconut, so maybe other fruits?

You can chop up other low fat dried fruits to make date rolls, great idea.  Apricots, mango, etc.  I agree, I don't like the high fat content of coconut.  It doesn't feel right in my belly.

I have to agree with the smoothie idea, I walk to work and that leaves me with limited carrying space, what I have been doing is using an apple juice container, it holds 2 liters, and i make a giant smoothie. The container fits in my backpack and then I just refill one of those double walled drinking cups throughout the day. Another thing I do is make a datorade for the walk. I still have trouble getting in as many calories as I should be getting though, do you have that problem as well

A couple of blended smoothies can fit easily into a small soft-sided cooler bag and keep you satisfied during the day.

Well that solves my keeping it cold problem :)
