Told him I went high carb raw vegan, and that I wanted to get started on methylcobalamin injections. He said I needed to get my levels checked first and that insurance would not pay for it, I should of told him I would of just paid out of pocket now that I think about it. He rushes people out of there, I need to go in with a written list next time.
He gave me a lab order slip and I'll go tomorrow to get blood taken. How long till I hear the results you think?
Is methylcobalamin prescription only in the U.S. or more specifically Massachusetts? What about the syringes, prescription? 3ml 25x25 syringes I heard is good. I could just go buy it and shoot it, but i never got an approval from him for that.
When I told him I was eating 4000 calories a day of raw fruit he didn't know what to say.
The spell check for "methylcobalamin" only comes up with "methamphetamine". Damn narrow minded spell-check dictionary writers.

Permalink Reply by David Costa on August 11, 2012 at 2:51am I was looking at that, don't even have $150. I just email my doc today, I sat around for 2 weeks waiting to hear back from him, guess I needed to ask.
Permalink Reply by David Costa on August 11, 2012 at 11:33am I got some replies back from my doc, I asked for a lab order for a uMMA and they said come in Monday for it, that was easy, saved $150 not going for the mail order test. I asked for detailed copies of the B12 blood test, may not be the best test but I still want to see it and post it here, she couldn't email it but I can pick that up Monday too.
Permalink Reply by David Costa on August 14, 2012 at 4:59am Okay, I went and got the printed results from the B12 blood test, and a lab order for a uMMA. Then I went and got the uMMA at the lab, we'll wait and see when i get the results. They had to call and figure out how to take a uMMA properly before they gave me the cup.

Thanks for sharing your results with us. It looks to me like your results are within a healthy normal range, not even on the low side.
I am still interested in what the urinalyses will be as well.
This tells me you have a healthy digestive system and possibly healthy gut flora. On a vegan diet, our main source of b12 is from gut flora. The next component is a healthy digestive system that can absorb and assimilate the b12.
To continue maintaining these levels, eating a diet high in lettuce greens, like 1/2-2 pounds a day will help. (Benefits of Lettuce Greens)
Did you get a regular CBC blood test done, and if so, were the results good?
Peace, PK
Permalink Reply by David Costa on August 14, 2012 at 9:07am The blood test was taken July 25, I went 100% vegan around June 20th, I wonder what it likely was before I went vegan.
I'll probably ask for another test in a few months, just to see and get a pattern.
Not sure about CBC, all I know is it was a blood. This is the only test I have had, that and the uMMA of course.
As for greens, I picked it up a little, about 3 heads of iceberg, romaine or green leaf a day. As for unwashed greens, do you get more B12 that way, I haven't seen a straight answer anywhere. I try to wash my non-organic greens and not wash my organics, unless there's too much sand and I feel it when I chew, then I wash it or wipe it off.
