30 Bananas a Day!

Hey guys, Natt here.  I have been 100% raw now for about 11 days and I absolutely LOVE it.  I went from cooked vegan to raw vegan over night and have no intention of looking back.  My question is about fat.  After reading 80/10/10 and watching a plethora of online videos fat is literally scaring me @#$%^&*(.  I have eaten nothing but fruit and veg in 11 days.  Not one seed, avocado, coconut or tahini sauce has touched these lips, but do I really need them?  Can I get the 10% of fat I need from my diet in the form of produce?

I'm scared if I buy tahini I will overuse it as I had a tendency to do in the past.

To me, this is more a mindset problem than it is a physical consideration.  This is super common on here and it seems to be something that's hard to shake, at first, for many people.  It's the way the culture has affected our thinking.

I would just stick to the 80/10/10 rules and if tahini works into that equation on a given day for you, then have the appropriate amt..  But if it's too tempting to over-do it, I might not keep it in stock.  Or get the small packets they sell, instead of a big jar.

You can get plenty of fat in your diet without any overt fats added. For example, zucchinis are 16% fat, and romaine lettuce is 15% fat.  Remember, 10% is a maximum for fat. No need to be scared of fat though! As long as you keep it to below 10% on most days, you will be fine :)

If there is a 'trigger food' that you are aware of for you, DON'T buy it!

I agree with the covert fat comment. You will be fine with such 'fattier' veggies in the diet. Do have a bit more at least once a week though. The fear is (I've seen it with groups like this) is that we tend to become too black and white or over-zealous. This is not a cult, do what's right for your body, but don't trigger an 'eating-disorder-mindset' over the issue. This is supposed to be a healthier mind AND body.

There is no need to eat overt fats if you don't enjoy having them right now (and if doing so makes you feel stressed) - like Teri said, 10% is a maximum, and eating less is absolutely fine. But if you do want to include some overts, I'd opt for avocado. It's less processed than tahini and digests in a way closer to a fruit than nuts and seeds do. No overts suits lots of people better though :) Take care, Esperanza xxx

I was in your same situation but + 9 months...experimented with a small avo which didnt really affect me but then I had a half the second day and hav ebeen energy zapped ever since...woke up the next morning with really heavy thick feeling blood in my legs like gravity was pulling down on each blood cell instead of them floating freely...also it definitely caked up my g.i tract and hindered the speedy absorption of the water and sugar from the watermelon I had the next morning...talk about melon belly! The end result of it all was a step or so back taken on path of evolution...felt less confident and inspired to be a change, felt more fickle and a victim of it all...not holding my head as high as usual, instigated a flare up of anger and agression in my relationship with my father....so according to my reality your perfectly right for being scared s***less... maybe had I only the first serving I' d been fine and since I indulged twice in a row and suffered my opinion is bias...but I think overts is more of a comfort food for lfrv's than anything else...if it helps you stay raw or the enjoyment factor is greater than the after effects then cool. I cant even use coconut water which is like 15% fat because its as if my vision gets more pixilated/change sto lower resolution...like 90/5/5 keeps me at 1080 hp and just a coco water or two smoothie drops me to 720 and as soon as I get back to plain water it goes back up...I believe everything including enough fat can be obtained even on 90/5/5 and that no energy needing to be directed towards digesting overts means more for sports and learning...less enzymes n energy for digestion of overts also means more for healing and repair!...also lymph is a lipid based fluid and most of us need to be thinning the lymph with high water fruits and pumping the lymphatic system with exercise....less fat...better oxygen utilization and transport...the list goes on and on but in my experience it hinders the assimilaton of air, water, n sugar which are much more vital to the establishment and maintenance of health than a fat fix...

Yeah stay away from that fat. 10% is a maximum. Just eat plenty of greens and you will get all the fat you need.

If you desire fat, for some reason, stick to fatty fruits- avocados, durian, etc - nuts and seeds are hard to handle. Nuts, if you can get them fresh, are great. But in their grocery store dried rancid form, they are hard to digest unless you soak them.

Plenty of people don't eat any overt fats and are fine. As long as you eat them green tender veggies.
