I have read about it for years, and I know people either love it or hate it, I was in China town with my parents and they bought me some mangos, mini bananas, a red dragon fruit! YAY (most expensive one I have encountered yet $8.88 a lbs! LOL) And a durian! I tried to pick one that didn't seem too big! I am excited my parent told me they don't think I will like it, then my dad said "don't you remember eating one when you were a baby? I don't think you liked it" I'm thinking, no dad of course I don't remember eating it as a BABY! LOL So I am excited, but it slip open when I brought it back home and poked a hole in my dragon fruit! Now to rummage through the posts about them:) I hope I like it! It didn't smell "bad" to me split open or is it smellier inside? I tied it up in a plastic bag just in case it would stink up my apt! lol
Permalink Reply by Jesse Radja on Welcome back to the durian club ...... don't forget fresh one is 4-6 times better then the frozen but at least you will get an idea of what it can taste like. The frozen durian may not have the same levels of infamous smell as a fresh one ...... and if it is a fresh one not really best to keep it in a plastic bag as it will sweat like most fruit will ...... OK enjoy ...... I ate my first durian from underneath a tree in 1994 and it definitely shaped my future direction ....... now I spend a few months every year in Asia ...... and although I go there for the culture ..... and the scenery ....... I also seem to get involved with a lot of durian ....... +++ I have now planted more then 50 durian trees in Australia .... the oldest ones should fruit any year .........
