30 Bananas a Day!

Hi everyone, what a wonderful, postive and wise community you have here!

I have been vegan for a few years now. I struggle with a few extra pounds and find it very frustrating. Not to mention I stuggle with depression, low energy and a few other ailments. I have been doing a ton of reading and research on live food/raw food and I want to take the complete plunge into it. So far I would say I am about 80% raw and already I am starting to feel practically uphoric. I want to clean up my weak edges and become 100% raw.

My questions are:
I want to know why this is called 30 bananas a day... is there some sort of banana detox information I can read about here. I noticed a few blogs, some of the members go for days only eating bananas. I am intrested in trying that but would love to read why and what the benefits are etc. first. Is there a link about it? I couldnt find any information. i want to know how to get started.

Some of the books I have been reading have scads of recipes for all kinds of raw foods and meals. I purchased a dehydrator and have been collecting all sorts of raw ingredients. I have noticed there are many people who eat just strictly raw fruits and perhaps some raw vegetables. They really keep its simple. I guess I am trying to ask- which way is best?

I have been watching Tim Vanorden on Utube and he doesnt even eat nuts or seeds. Is that best?

Thanks so much for helping a newbie out!

I'm fairly new too, but I'll try to answer your questions.

30 bananas would be about 3,000 calories, so if you're an athlete and only eating bananas, you could need about 30 a day. Some people do eat only bananas for days at the time. The biggest benefit is that you are only eating one fruit, which makes digestion easier. You could use any fruit, but bananas are cheap and readily available.

This site promotes 80/10/10 raw vegan which means 80% of your calories come from carbs, 10% from fat, and 10% from protein. You can use an online calorie counter to keep track at first such as fitday or nutradiary. If you are eating 80/10/10, it is almost all fruits and veg, with a few nuts or avocado thrown in occasionally.

Most people here would agree that eating 80/10/10 makes them feel much better than a high fat raw vegan diet which is promoted by some other raw "gurus." I know I do!
It's a catchy name, but yes, it's to give an idea to people how much quantity of fruit you actually need to eat if you're quite active or an athlete; this site promotes fitness too. Fruits are a main source of energy, but because of their high water content, people may simply not eat enough when they're used to cooked or perhaps even "raw" low-water-content foods.
