I was wondering if anyone has experienced or heard of positive changes concerning hyperthyroidism after switching to raw foods. I have recently transitioned to raw myself, and want to get my boyfriend on board, since he has hyperthyroidism and I feel raw foods can help (the condition is reversible in some individuales) but he is skeptical that it will help him, plus he eats ALOT (I mean ALOT ALOT!!) and doesn't think raw foods will keep him full either. Any information you have on how raw foods can affect hyperthyroidism would be so greatly appreciated!

I'm no doc/nutritionist, but have dealt w/ healing my family and detoxing them and myself from heavy metal toxicity, which is often linked to thyroid disorders.
Things to read up/google on: gluten; celiac disease; the relation between celiac disease and thyroid disorders; autoimmune disease and thyroid; heavy metal chelation (detox); Andy Cutler chelation protocol (forum on Yahoo discussion groups - Adult Chelation).
In case this is helpful, too, my family takes some supplements (just to support our systems - kidneys, liver, etc., while getting this metal out of our bodies) and I will pretty much only use Now Foods supps. (no gluten, casein, etc. they're very good at labeling their stuff.) which is important for any conditions like this, because gluten affects autoimmune conditions very much. Also, if he's having trouble coming off the gluten/dairy, look up gluten and opiate effect or dairy and opiate effect, as this is what it does to the body when the body is toxic w/ metal. (This was a big issue for my and my husband, too..) But we finally kicked them..
but yes, I just started this diet and I think I have hypothyroidism and it's helping immensely, just after a couple days.
Maybe just ask him to try it for a couple of days and make him a bunch of smoothies and have him suck them down whenever he's hungry. Nothing fills you up like water/nutrient and vitamin-rich fruits and veggies.. I make a big 'ninja blender' full smoothie and drink it all day and then have a giant salad. you can incorporate avocados, maybe some beans if he's afraid he won't get full (as I did) ... Good stuff.
All the best!
