30 Bananas a Day!

How to stay 811 in college with little to no money for groceries?

I'm starting college next fall in the lovely state of Vermont, and I just hopped on the banana wagon. I reaallly want to keep following 811, but I'm a little concerned of how I'll get my hands on bundles of fruit because I'm going to be completely dependent on the dining halls for food. I was just thinking of stocking up on fruits and veggies by taking them from the dining hall haha. But I was wondering if anyone else had suggestions as to how I can keep going. =) Also, since my school supplies mostly locally grown produce, I'm quite worried that there won't be enough raw fruits and veggies during the winter!

The dining services manager at the school should be able to order cases of bananas for you through their distributor, if you pay in advance.

They will still have a distributor in the winter, no worries. There is no such thing as "Local produce" in Vermont in the winter, so unless they don't have any produce at all for 6 months, they will be able to order you bananas through their distributor.

It kind of suck that you are paying for the meal plan but not able to eat any of the stuff you are forced to pay for. Maybe talk to administrators about that. If they aren't douchebags, they'll help you out.

you could  go dumpsterdiving

try to make contact with other fruitarians. It's always easier with support. try another bigger town/city and ask for

transport or fix your own transport. buy a big frezzer and bulk up if you can . Atleast better than cooked carbs.

Everyone provided excellent suggestions (some of which I wish I utilized when I was still in college!) Take advantage of that unlimited meal plan, and even if the school cafeteria doesn't provide organic produce, you still have opportunity to snag all the fruits and hopefully salad bar they have. The local food co-op you suggested might be very beneficial for you!

I used to make fruit smoothies on the go I would sip on through my morning classes. Kept me energized and focused! :)

I have the same problem! Forced to take a meal plan, first year in college and am scared I am going to not be able to survive.  I really think it is a good idea to talk to the people at the cafeteria.  Oh it would be awesome if I met someone else there on this diet.  I also am going to be broke but at least I know they have fruit everyday even though it is not ripe and a salad bar, I am just going to stock up my room!  I am going to Rutgers, idk if anyone has heard of it but if you have/or are going there let me know.

I know =( meeting some other people pursuing this diet would be so helpful! I know there's a good number of vegans but I wonder if any of them are curious about 811 or have heard of it. I hope you can find some support at Rutgers too!
