When I'm able to watch videos that go at a normal pace again (slow computer at the moment), I'll watch this video. I'm so glad that people like you exist, DR.

Keep an rawkin'! :)

Well, I've put on muscle with calisthenics..but, moreso strength than visible muscle. Definitely looking sturdier.

From the time of the first photo Jan 2009 to the latest photo Apr 2012 I have done heavy bench press just not regular training of it though.

Moral of this video is to remind people looking to gain muscle size is that they MUST train heavy weights vs distance running/push ups IF they want BIGGER MUSCLES. :)

Harley is correct. Sport specific training is the name of the game. Just train with those who are better than you at your chosen activity and put the hard yards in. Simples :)

Your weight will drop off on fruit as you drop excess fluid and fat retention.

What exactly are you basing your statements about calisthenics not being able to build muscle off of?  I occasionally hear people say that, but they are usually the same people that say you need 200+ (g) of protein a day in order to build muscle.  For the last eight (almost 9) months I've only done calisthenics (no weights) in order to see if it was possible to build muscle and my findings thus far have been very positive.  And saying that I started the project weighing 205, but two months later I discovered the 811 diet, so I've had to take that into consideration.  After about four months I stopped losing weight at 180 ibs.  In the last two months I stayed at about the same weight, and have overall started increasing weight.

I generally have a great deal of respect for your opinion, but I can't say that I'm following you here.  You're maybe 150 ibs., you don't look anything like a bodybuilder.  You are clearly in great shape, but you'd be training for at least three years before you would look appropriate on a stage.  Point is you're kind of talking about things outside of your area of knowledge with all the authority of someone that actually knows what they are talking about.  I'm not saying I'm there either, but in terms of muscle building I'm a great deal further along than you are, and I've tried it both ways.  I commented on your video, but if you want to see guys that look like bodybuilders that are calisthenics built then google the following.

Hit Richards (trainer), Hershal Walker (football player/fighter), Terrell Owens (football), Yuri Van Gelder (gymnast) and Chad Ochocinco (football).

I'm not arguing that Calisthenics are better than weight training, just that it is very well possible to build muscle similar to that of natural bodybuilders.  There are pro's and con's to both sides.  The best athlete would do a mixture of both which is what I intend to do after a year of calisthenics only (this September).  But until you've tried both and documented you're findings thoroughly and accurately you really don't know.

Im not into bodybuilding hence don't train like one. This video was more about me telling crew what they need to do if they want to look like a bodybuilder. I train like a runner so look like a runner. People that train like bodybuilders eventually look like bodybuilders.

Moral of the story, train specific. Don't train like a 13 year old calisthenics girl if you want big thick strong muscles.

PS: ALL those guys you mention, they are gym rats for many years.

HR says this in an interview with Shapefit.

But giving the image that you don't do weights makes you stand out from the crowd when your marketing a product to people that feel intimidated by going to the gym/lifting heavy weights. Thinking people grow big strong thick muscles from hanging at the play ground is perpetuating a myth though.

Otherwise 15 year old female gymnasts would look the same as 15 year old female power lifters..

This is my 15 year old gymnast body.  Calisthenics ONLY.

Fantastic video!  I've been bodybuilding over 10 years, have tried and done it all and this advice is exactly what I say to clients now.  Very good, simple advice with no extra unnecessary crap thrown in.  Oh, and when I made the switch to vegan, especially HCRV, my progress increased dramatically compared to 9 years of eating tons of meat.  I'll be sharing this video all over Harley

I've gained a good deal more strength from a push up programme.
