30 Bananas a Day!

I have two buds, both with type I diabetes.. they have been under extensive care and supervision their whole lives. One's a soccer player also with celiac's, the other a football (US) player. I pass by the building office where I have my classes each time and see both of them at the nurse. I feel really sorry.

Wish I could help somehow but not sure whether they're open to new ideas. And if they are, not sure how I could explain and help out. They don't know what I eat everyday.. all they know is that I do very well in swimming and respect me for it. Don't want to be condescending in any manner or anything, just to help them with some healthier alternatives :)

You can check out http://robbybarbaro.org/ and give it to them. But you r of course aware that type 1 is also not curable with hcrv. Celiac is of course curable. My own experience is that acquaintances can be quite open to advise like this, especially if you r a good succesful example of the diet yourself

I want to add that I recently had very bad experiences though 'advising' people on some dutch forums. I made some posts citing quite convincing cases of healing from nasty diseases like arthritis and crohn's and most responses of people were very negative. Most people did not even want to read the documentation I had provided. I guess if you have heard your whole life that a disease is incurable, it's difficult to get out of that mindset. It's not something I'm going to do again, I don't want to subject myself to so much negativity. Makes me very very sad, though.

Yes, I would give them Robby's site.  He is a great example of living healthfully with type 1.  He also lowered his insulin intake significantly which adds years to your life.

I'll take a look at that link. Thank you very much!!

There is nothing wrong with sharing, just as long as you are mindful of not being so pushy.  After all, everyone has to find their way -- you can just shine a light and be there to guide them along once they are ready.  I have heard of people being able to cure type I with fruits -- but I'm sure it requires a high level of detoxing, so your body regenerates those pancreatic cells.  I know that fruits will be awesome for them because they do not require insulin to go into your cells.  Every other sugar does, but fructose does not.

Easy. Ask em what they think of Robby Barbaro's  blog.

Ask em what they think of Dr Barnards book.

Ask the question 'what do you guys think of this book/guy?, lots of people rave about it...'.

This book is brilliant:

You don't even have to start a condescending conversation - just give them the book and write a few links to relevant blogs etc. on the inside cover! Sooner or later they'll be tempted to read it ;)

PERFECT, thanks! Thought about reading it myself sometime.

I have type 1 diabetes too. I run and eat good to control it the best I can.

How's that been going, Tony?

It's really hard but I take it one day at a time, I'm trying to get my A1c lower but I don't think it will happen anytime soon. I also have hashimotos hypothyroidism so it makes it even harder trying to balance 2 diseases at once.
