Permalink Reply by Fruitology on July 5, 2012 at 8:16pm I had two amalgam fillings replaced with a substance called Dimond Lite. Total was $300 US dollars of which $80 dollars was covered by my insurance. Cost of this procedure varies depending on how large the fillings are, the substance you choose to refill, and how many fillings you want replaced.

I had around 10 amalgam mercury fillings removed in Budapest, Hungary, just over a year ago and replaced with white, possibly ceramic fillings (I'm sorry I don't know what the replacements were exactly but should do) and the total cost was around £400 sterling, approx HUF 120,000 (Hungarian Forints), which I thought was reasonable, indeed.
I'd had the mercury fillings for approximately 20-30 years, in some cases and am mightily relieved that I had them removed.
Love, light and healthy eating!
All the best,
Peter
Thank you very much. That is not too expensive.
All best wishes, health, love and light to you
Be well,
Daniela
Peter - did you get any side effects from having them removed? One dentist told me that taking them out would cause much more absorption and toxicity to enter my body than keeping them in.
Permalink Reply by Peter David Ebdon on July 10, 2012 at 11:13am Hi VeganVital,
Sorry I've not had the chance to reply before now but have been travelling for the past couple of days and have not had access to the internet until now.
I don't particularly remember having any symptoms or side effects of having the amalgam fillings removed, although I have had a wisdom tooth removed, since, which would have been just before Christmas last year.
I did have a very high liver blood count in Feb 2011, at 300, when the normal count should be around 30 and who knows, that may well have been the result of long-term toxicity from having amalgam fillings but obviously, I can't say for sure.
A vegan lifestyle certainly improved those numbers though because within 4 months of becoming vegan, the same blood test, done again, resulted in a score of 70, so definitely heading in the right direction.
From my limited reserach over the past year or so, it seems that dental problems, are often indicators of general malaise or perhaps an underlying illness or problem in the body, so perhaps it's wise to have some blood tests taken, when we have dental issues...
I develpoed Tinnitus, just short of 2 years ago and another member on this forum, suggested that that could have been caused by mercury poisoning, from amalgam fillings, although again, I cannot possibly prove that this is the case.
Regular tests have also helped me to identify a vitamin B12 deficiency however, for which I am now treating with hydroxocobalamin injections and I feel on top of the world again.
I still have the Tinnitus and that may never go but I'll keep up with the vegan lifestyle, the running and the swimming and of course, the B12 injections and we'll see how we go!
Interestingly, I've recently discovered that my 'intrinsic factor' is working normally, so my B12 deficiency is a result of my strict vegan diet but to be perfectly honest, I am very happy with not consuming any animal products at all, from which I could derive B12 and will continue with the B12 injections, meaning that I will have higher levels of B12, than I would have done, on my former diet.
Love, light and healthy eating!
All the best, Peter
Hi Peter and thanks for such a comprehensive reply!
I don't have any dental problems (currently!) but I do have a lot of fillings in my mouth so having them removed is something I've considered many times over the years. The cost (in the UK), finding a sufficiently skilled dentist (and one willing to do it!) and the possible dangers of the procedure releasing a lot of mercury into my system at once have always put me off. However, this price seems very reasonable and you report not having had any side effects from it so I will maybe look into it.
I'm in my 50s and I'll have been raw vegan for 13 years next month. I have blood tests as regularly as my GP will allow (he is always telling me, 'it's too soon since the last ones') and so far my only deficiency has been Vit D - which is not surprising considering the lack of sun in this country. I am aware that the standard blood test done in the UK for B12 is not a very good indicator of your true B12 absorption rate but they flat out refuse to do the uMMA test (most doctors over here haven't even heard of it!). So I take a sub-lingual B12 just to be on the safe side. I am still toying with the idea of taking injections for B12 and am going to ask a lot of people about them at the Woodstock Fruit Festival this year.
Many thanks again, Peter, and lots of fruity best wishes!

Permalink Reply by Peter David Ebdon on July 13, 2012 at 2:15am Hi Angie,
I'm glad that you're taking your B12 seriously because it really is important but I must say that the minimum levels in the UK, before supplementation is even considered, are far too low, at 200.
In Japan, if you're lower than 550, they recommend treatment!
Aside, as I recommended to Daniela, the clinic that I go to in Budapest, Hungary, is excellent and I paid approx 1/10th of what I would have had to pay in the UK, when having my amalgam fillings removed.
You can get a return flight from either Doncaster/Sheffield or Luton to Budapest, with either Wizzair, or from Luton with Easyjet, for under £100.
All the best, Peter
Peter, what is the adress of the Hospital?
All best wishes,
Daniela
Permalink Reply by Peter David Ebdon on July 13, 2012 at 1:59am Hi Daniela,
The dental clinic where I was treated, is on the first floor of a hotel on Margaret Island, Budapest.
There are various doctor's clinics and the dental practise there and I must admit, the treatment I've had there, over the last 3 years or so, has been excellent and very good value for money too.
I'll have to get back to you with the exact hotel name and address/phone number but I believe that there are only 2 hotels on Margaret island, Budapest, anyway.
I'm in Australia at the moment but should be back in the Uk, next Tuesday.
All the best,
Peter
Thank you very much Peter!
All best wishes,
Daniela
