30 Bananas a Day!

HOW DO YOU ENSURE YOU HAVE ADEQUATE RIPE FRUIT ON HAND AT ALL TIMES???

Cloudyknight, Indeed!  And I do that too. 

 

What do YOU do besides this?  What is your game plan to ensure adequate ripe fruit at all times?

Create a ripening system with your produce, have a variety of fruit around so that if one thing is under ripe you can eat something else, and have a back up supply of dates for emergencies!

Espernza, YEP!  I do that also.

I guess my main advice for you would be to buy a bit extra than what you need each week of the more storable fruits like apples and oranges, then if you don't eat them all you can put them in the fridge for the following week. Just making sure that you have some overlap every week makes a huge difference. That way you never have days with no fruit around.

Oh, and buying wholesale if you're not all ready doing so - you can then afford to have much more fruit :)

Esperanza Vite, Thank you for your link to your items for sale to assist us in staying raw and on program.  I am at my limit of spending ability.  When I get some more cash-flow I will shop at your on-line store.  Thank you. 

 

I have a habit of taking inventory of my food supplies everyday just after waking up. I make sure that I have enough fresh raw foods to make it through my day and something like watermelon for tomorrow's break-fast. After I have entered any today items on my list I look at longer term needs in terms of doing to best job I can of anticipating fruits needed for ripening. After that I go shopping and fill my list. Whatever the longer term needs are I know that for sure I am good to go for today plus tomorrow's breakfast.

bmoojeni, thank you for your post.  It is amazing to me the variety of ways people are employing to stay on program with ripe fruit. 

 

Can you order dates via the mail?  I am fortunate to be able to get them year round and of course organic.  I am getting back into eating them again and usually have some in the frige handy at all times. 

I buy two 40 lbs boxes of bananas every two weeks on the same day of the week (one box every week would be more ideal). If I have my bananas and *nothing else* I will still be perfectly fine :). I go through a box every 5-7 days.

Everything else I pick up every few days or weekly. Tangelos are always around (LOVE them), mangoes when on sale or when I find them really ripe, greens every couple of days depending on what I feel like (usually romaine or spinach :)). Tomatoes I always buy a BIG amounts and let them ripen, since they're usually unripe in the stores.

I don't have a fridge/kitchen at the moment, which makes it a bit tricky for greens. But really, this is the BEST lifestyle to be on while not having a fridge or kitchen really (other than just going out to eat all the time!).

Esra, I love how you worked this all out.  It takes a clear mind and committment to do what you are doing.

I start eating through the box as soon as they ripen, and usually I finish them off before any get too ripe. If I see that they're getting ripe really quickly, then bananas is all I'm eating! 

Right when I get the boxes I take the bananas out of the boxes and lay them out. I space out the first box's bananas quite a bit (on the floor), and put the other box's bananas really close together. This actually makes them ripen at slightly different times.

The no fridge/kitchen thing is only temporary, but I've always used this tactic with bananas, I never put them in the fridge!
