Permalink Reply by AJ on April 18, 2012 at 8:05am my understanding is that as long as you supplement with A LOT of water, to make up for the lack thereof in dried fruit, you can eat as much as is necessary. i am not an expert though! but that seems to be the general rule of thumb i've seen around, hope it helps =] and i hope someone corrects me if i'm wrong.....
oh also, i've heard soaking it in water is beneficial because well, it replenishes some of the water content, and i'd imagine also makes it easier to digest. dried fruit can be slightly rougher than fresh, but it's never given me problems.
Permalink Reply by Macuilxochitl on April 18, 2012 at 8:21am My understanding is that you can't really supplement the lack of water in fruit by drinking more. In any case, the usual recommendation here is: when you can't have enough cals from fruit, get some from cooked high carb vegan.
Permalink Reply by Sydney on April 18, 2012 at 8:07am I personally eat dried fruits whenever I'm getting low on ripe food, and don't see much of an issue with it. Just make sure to drink lots of extra water, since you won't be getting any through your food. I like to mix it up, to not have only dried fruit all day, but if that's all you have, then I suppose it's alright for a day or two. Keep in mind, also, that dried fruits and nuts have way more calories. So even though you might not feel like you're eating much quantity-wise, you might be getting a lot calorie-wise. One day when I ate a lot of raisins, I got around 4800 calories (normally I'm at about 2500 or so) without noticing it. (Not that that's a bad thing, of course!)
Lots of water, though!
