30 Bananas a Day!

Hiya everyone,

I am on day 5 of LFRV (was high fat/gourmet raw before). I am tracking my calorie and nutrient intake using chronometer religeously and notice that my protein is still lower than 10% and the only foods I can think of as being rich in protein are also equally rich in fat but I am already eating slightly over 10% as fat as it is.

I am eating a huge green salad everyday as well as tons of fruit, my calorie intake is fine but my  80-10-10 balance is a bit off and is more like 80-5-15

I know how to bring the fat down but not sure how to get the protein up

Any ideas,

Many thanks,

Star xxx

ahhh great, I shall not concern myself then, thank you :-) On my current intake it worked out that 10% protein would be 50g which seems bit high anyway so thank for clearing this up for me :-)

looks like you are doing fine! 5% is plenty.

The 811 concept goes like this:  80% minimum from carbs, 10% maximum from both fat and protein, so i would say you are doing fine.

Many people on this lifestyle actually feel and perform better when the ratio is more like 955.

Hope that helps.

Very helpful, thank you :-)

10% is a maximum. Excess protein is not good for the body. Adults really only need about 2.5% as a minimum, so 3-5% is a good range to be in, 5-10% is okay, but maybe more than you need, and over 10% is excessive. So if you're getting 5% from protein I'd say you're doing pretty well. You don't need to 'bring it up' if you're getting that much. In one of McDougall's books he says that people only need about 20g of protein a day and that the WHO recommendations are about double that to be on the 'safe side' (at 37g recommended by WHO). As long as you're eating enough calories from fruits and vegetables protein deficiency is a complete non-issue really. I think there are some grains that might have too little protein, but with fruits and vegetables you need not worry about it. Fat on the other hand is a little trickier, but you should avoid eating many overt fats (nuts/avocado) as they will quickly put you in excess.

Cool thanks,

Yeah I thought 10% was high as it worked out at 50g of protein and from my studies it seems that adult humans need 30g maximum

I don't eat nuts as I don't like them really and have stopped making salad dressings with oil, I now use date soak water and fruit juice (yum!)

Thanks for your help
